          • SSU-2015-02-04: The Call To Discipleship

            from Sabbath School / Added

Study 4 o 13 on The Gospel of Luke “All this talk of discipleship. It’s not new. We tout it like we just found it at the turn of the century, but it’s millennially old. Jesus called. People followed. He mentored. They learned. He sent. They went and preached and healed. He was arrested…they disappeared. You may consider yourself an expert on discipleship, you may try to insert it in every meeting and article, you may even establish a ministry specifically with that focus, but if you do not understand and practice the teachings of Jesus…disappearance may be the option you follow.”—Falvo Fowler Scriptural Basis: Matt. 10:5–15; 16:24–28Luke 5:1–11; 6:12–16; 9:1–6, 23–25; 10:1–24. Key Text: “He said to them all, ‘If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me’” (Luke 9:23, NKJV). 1. What is the role of a disciple in the establishment of the kingdom of God? 2. What do you understand by the four discipleship principles that Luke 9:23 spells out: deny yourself, take up the cross, take it up daily, and follow Jesus? 3. Why did Jesus choose the 12 disciples and later send out the 70? 4. What spiritual truths can we learn from Luke 9:1–6 and Matthew 10:5–15 about how Jesus called these men? 5. Why is discipleship costly? 6. In regard to Luke 10:24, what are some of the things that we, living in this day, have been privy to witness that “many prophets and kings” would have liked to see but didn’t?

              • 2015 29 03 The Church Revealed Walk Worthy (Pastor Peter Visscher)

from The Father's House / Added

The word calling is often used in Christian circles, and usually in the sense of doing great things for God, though in Ephesians 4:1-2, the word is first and foremost a challenge to grow in character. Paul urges his readers to “walk worthy” of the calling they have received. Growing in this kind of calling requires that we become humble, gentle, patient, and all the more loving. As we take on these virtues, we embrace the call of God on our lives, and we more powerfully reveal the church in a good and worthy way.
