Jesus called some fishermen from Galilee out of their boats and away from their routines into a life of following Him. With this new calling, they were compelled to sacrifice for the sake of fishing for people. As we kick off our Capital Campaign, we are reminded that Jesus is still calling—and compelling our hearts to share. Recorded on January 25, 2015 at the 10:45 AM worship service from CLC's Sanctuary. "Hearts Compelled to Share: Fishers of Men" (Mark 1:14-20). Pastor Luther Brunette and Pastor Scott Giger. Sermon Series: "Hearts Compelled to Share."

Genesis 14:17-20 And the king of Sodom went out to meet him at the Valley of Shaveh (that is, the King’s Valley), after his return from the defeat of Chedorlaomer and the kings who were with him. 18 Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine; he was the priest of God Most High. 19 And he blessed him and said: “Blessed be Abram of God Most High, Possessor of heaven and earth; 20 And blessed be God Most High, Who has delivered your enemies into your hand.” And he (Abram) gave him (Melchizedek) a tithe of all. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It is important to celebrate life together! Romans 12:15 Rejoice with those who rejoice. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Party the right way by honoring God. Allow God to be the honored guest at the center of your celebrations. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Major Question in Party Planning: How Can I Honor God in this Celebration? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- How and what we celebrate communicates what we value! Genesis 14:21-23 Now the king of Sodom said to Abram, “Give me the persons, and take the goods for yourself.” 22 But Abram said to the king of Sodom, “I have raised my hand to the LORD, God Most High, the Possessor of heaven and earth, 23 that I will take nothing, from a thread to a sandal strap, and that I will not take anything that is yours, lest you should say, ‘I have made Abram rich.’ -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We often forget God in our celebrations. Deuteronomy 8:11-12,14,17 “Beware that you do not forget the LORD your God by not keeping His commandments, His judgments, and His statutes which I command you today, 12 lest—when you have eaten and are full, and have built beautiful houses and dwell in them; 14 when your heart is lifted up, and you forget the LORD your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage; 17 then you say in your heart, ‘My power and the might of my hand have gained me this wealth.’ -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The lure of success is a dangerous lure. The danger of success is that you no longer feel that you need God. 1 Corinthians 10:12 Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall. James 1:16-17 Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren. 17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The result of honoring God – more victory and no fear in trials. Genesis 15:1 After these things the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision, saying, “Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward.”

Advent is more than a four-week baby shower.
