About nine years ago I had the privilege of going to a Muslim nation for the first time. Before I went, I didn't know what to expect. I remember being very fearful because of my lack of knowledge and experience with Muslims and their culture. I grew up in a town that didn’t have any Muslims and the only exposure that I had received was from television. In my mind, Muslims were people who hated Americans and wanted to kill us because we weren’t Muslim. Looking back on it I laugh because of my naivety, but at that time these thoughts really scared me. I’m so glad that I was able to overcome my fears because once I was there my thinking drastically changed. I found that the Muslim people that I got to know were some of the most hospitable and kind people that I had ever met. I have been to many Muslims countries now and have developed friendships with many there. They have opened my eyes to the stereotypes that I had once bought into. This video is my effort to try and help people think about this issue. I think we as Americans can get worked up about a group of people that often we know little about. Here are some questions for you: How many of you are afraid of Muslims? How many of you have ever met a Muslim? How many of you have had a Muslim friend? I think we fear because we're scared of the unknown. Have we made an effort to understand? I would love to see Americans start dialoging with Muslims both here and abroad. My Muslim friends in the Middle East and North Africa made me promise that I would tell my American friends that they aren't terrorists. I hope you enjoy this video that I made. Please leave comments if you like. You could even use this comment section below to start talking to each other. (Please be nice and respectful) Tech Talk: This video was shot using a Canon 5d Mark II. I used all L series glass. We used a glide-cam 4000 pro for the moving shots. A zoom H4n hand recorder was used for audio and Plural Eyes was used in Final Cut Pro to sync the audio.

Since the dawn of humanity, countless cultures around the world have held prophecies and tales foretelling a time when an epic final battle between the forces of light and dark, would destroy the earth; and where the victorious forces would be given the power to become the rulers over a new reality. And though to many, this battle may seem like the legendary stuff of stories, there are those who believe, that the final battle is upon us, and that Armageddon has indeed begun. However, it is essential here to understand that contrary to popular belief, Armageddon is not a battle that can be fought and won on the battlefields of Man, but rather, the true Armageddon, is a war that can only be won... within.

This visual essay is an attempt to illustrate a beautiful poem found in the book of Colossians. The idea was to create a very simple, but epic motion piece (or at least try to do it). I wanted to use the contrast between a very deep and dense poem and very simple graphics to create an appealing piece. I think the simplicity could drag the attention to the meaning of the poem. Here the script: He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. Colossians 1:15-17 This piece was created as an assignment for MoGraph Mentor. UPDATE: The Christmas Chord has been voted video of the month for January 2013 by the Institute of Videographers! UPDATE: The Christmas Chord came second in ITN's 2012 Nativity Factor competition! Here are some of the fantastic comments the judges made about it: "This simple but effective production is clear and direct with its message. The clever modern poetry style of the presentation and the graphics make it feel current and relevant to a universal audience." - Emma Read, ITN Productions "This was an exceptionally clever re-telling of the greatest story ever told! It was well written, beautifully performed, simple, fun, heartfelt and moving. I loved it!" - Deborah Isitt, Writer and Director of Nativity! and Nativity 2: Danger in the Manger "I loved this - and it was a masterpiece of poetry and performance... It thoroughly explored the message of the Nativity and used innovative, clever ways of doing it. I loved the graphics floated over the real footage - especially the 'King of Hearts' image at the end." - Julie Etchingham, ITV News #christmaschord Ever taken the time to think through what Christmas is all about? Beyond turkey with stuffing balls and cranberry sauce, beyond party hats and cracker 'jokes', beyond pine needles and cracked chestnuts...what is the one cord which holds Christmas together? This is a spoken word piece about the first Christmas story and it is a gift to watch, share, enjoy and be reminded - of the true meaning of Christmas.
