I had only just got into rock climbing when I filmed this movie, so it was great fun to shoot as I had just fallen in love with the sport. With this being the first film I’ve ever made, it just added to the excitement and newness of it all. I have a history of predominantly photographing weddings, with some family portraiture and fashion photography in between. So this film was a huge plunge into the unknown. Consequently it was rather frustrating working with programs that are completely foreign to me, yet exciting as it is something completely new to me. The main concept behind the film is summed up in the first two paragraphs: "I believe that one cannot accurately form an opinion on a subject, based on other’s opinions, nor from first impressions, but one has to fully commit to experiencing it in all it’s fullness, in order to truly find out what it means to them. I feel that climbing and being one with God are the same in this area, in that they can both be seen as obscure in the sense that there is so much more to them than what words could do justice. Consequently not everyone will take the time to explore these avenues." When the words “Jesus” or “Christian” are heard, many people instantly associate this words with words like: judgment, condemnation, falling short, inadequate, no joy, etc. This makes me sad, as it is the exact opposite, because Jesus Christ came to the earth to die for us, that we may have eternal life, because He loves us. We are told this in John 3:16. We have been made righteous, not because we are without sin, but because He was without sin when He died, and all we are asked to do is to believe. It is simple, but the world tries to complicate it, because it is simply too good to be true, but it is true nonetheless. If you have any further questions about the concept of the video, please feel free to mail me craigmannheim@gmail.com This film was shot with a Canon 7D, with a Canon 24-70mm f2.8 on the end of it. The underwater scene was shot with a Gopro. Footage was edited in Adobe Premiere. Slow clap was done in Twixtor. The footage was collected over 6 days, but a lot of the days consisted of 1-3 hours of shooting. It took me about a week to edit the film from start to finish. I would like to take the following people: Firstly, to my savior, Jesus Christ, for the concept and the inspiration. Also for giving me to strength and determination to finish up before the due date. All the climbers involved: Jordan Pillai, Roland Fuch, Stephan Lutge, Alex Williams, Dylan Williams, Jonathan Hare, Theo Mulder, Joel, Lesley and Michael Harm. University of Kwa-Zulu Natal, Old Mutual Sports Gym for allowing us to use the premises. Richard Mckibben for narrating. Anthony Govender from Omega Studios for recording the narration. Matthew Swart from Parafilm Videography for getting me on my feet. Matt played a huge part in assisting me in taking the step into video, by answering any and all of my questions. He is a technical genius! Michael Pnematicatos for allowing me to use his Gopro. To all my friends that encouraged me and supported me. Filmmakers that inspired me: Chuck Fryberger and Salomon Ligthelm. And finally, a big thanks to all of you who have just watched this. I hope that it would in some way inspire you, by opening your mind to something, which may have possibly been put in a box. Be blessed!:) Craig Mannheim
