As the Vice Chancellor for Facilities Planning, Construction & Management at the City University of New York, Ms. Weinshall oversees all facilities planning and capital construction programs for the University’s 24 campuses and schools – approximately 27 million square feet of space and 300 plus buildings – and she is responsible for the University’s $5 billion Capital Program. In 2011, Vice Chancellor Weinshall and her staff completed the most recent public/private partnership for CUNY with the opening of the Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College and the CUNY School of Public Health. Also that year, John Jay College of Criminal Justice expanded its campus with a 13-story building. Appointed Commissioner of the New York City Department of Transportation (DOT) in 2000, Weinshall supervised a $5 billion capital program. Under her leadership, DOT launched a major program to rehabilitate the city's network of bridges and roadways, including the nearly $3 billion rehabilitation of the City's East River Bridges. She was appointed Special Transportation Advisor to Mayor Michael Bloomberg in 2003. Weinshall graduated cum laude from Brooklyn College, and earned her Master's Degree in Public Administration from New York University. A lifelong resident of Brooklyn, she has two daughters and is married to United States Senator Charles Schumer.
