A year ago, Becky and I were on the Colorado River. About 1/4 of the way through our trip through the Grand Canyon. I had to relive just a little bit of it; thought I'd share. Our semi annual 7 day houseboat trip to Lake Powell that took place in July of 2008 did not disappoint. Had the best weather, slept under a 3/4 moon to begin with & full by the 5th night in. It was windy in parts during the day & into the night once or twice. One wind gust almost blew us right off our beach if not for the anchors (we were gonna move anyway). This clip is special, not just because it's Lake Powell in July. It's doubly special because it chronicles our passage through the Castle Rock "cut". It's a short-cut that offers boaters quick access to the meaty parts of the Lake from Wahweap Marina and only because of a heavy snow pack melt-down that year did the water levels rise high enough to use "The Cut". Without this short-cut & on a houseboat towing one Bat Boat (as I like to call it) & two JetSki's it takes a good portion of the day to get to where the short cut dumps you off in minutes so having it open after being closed for 4 or 5 years was huge.

In the spring of 2011 I had the opportunity to kayak the Black Canyon of the Colorado River from the base of Hoover Dam. Five years earlier this very river almost took my life.... The journey was epic. I found Arizona Hot Springs and continued on to Emrald Cave. The Southwest is a magical place, filled with native legends and folk lore.

Picacho State Recreation Area lies on 9 miles of the pristine Colorado River. In 1961, it was established as a State Park. Today, it is facing closure due to budget cuts in our State Park System. If Picacho is to remain open, we must all get involved and offer our support. We have started an advocacy group, Friends4Picacho, with this immediate goal as our main focus. http://www.friends4picacho.org
