In 2011, The Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation funded two grants through the Conquer Cancer Foundation: the Young Investigator Award and the Long Term International Fellowship Award. The Young Investigator Award was presented to Dr. Flavio Rocha, who has recently moved from the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York to the Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle. Dr. Rocha is using the $50,000 grant from The Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation to investigate CEACAM6 as a biological marker and prognostic factor for biliary malignancy. Surbpong Tanasanvimon received a LIFe recipient grant from The Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation in 2012 this grant was awarded through the Conquer Cancer Foundation (which is the non-profit arm of ASCO). He recently had the opportunity to present his research at the 2013 GI Symposium. The title of his abstract was: Comparison of microRNA (MiRNA) expression profiles between opisthorchis viverrini-associated cholangiocarcinoma (OV-CCA) and non-opisthorchis viverrini-associated cholangiocarcinoma (non-OV CCA).
