              • CL Goes Thrifting

                from Daniel Veintimilla Added 83 0 1

Creative Loafing Tampa (www.cltampa.com) writers/editors Arielle Stevenson, Julie Garisto and Leilani Polk set upon the Burg for two favorite thrift shopping havens — the Goodwill at Central Avenue and U.S. 19 and the Sunshine Thrift Store at U.S. 19 and 30th Street. Arielle scored a designer handbag, Julie found some Ikea glasses (which probably cost a whole dollar more retail) — goes to show which CL gal is the luckier, more diligent thrift shopper. Holiday items galore could be found, including a real-life fake LED fireplace. Treasure Island antique re-seller Frank Andrade bumped into the women in the housewares aisle at Goodwill. He shared some of his pearls of wisdom and wore one of his trademark hats (which, of course, was acquired while thrifting). Andrade hawks the items he scores at local antique malls. Be sure to read more about thrifting and retro fashion through the decades in CL's Style Issue, out Dec. 13, 2012.

                      from Jason Dominy Added 189 0 0

This Coffee Ambush finds us at the new offices of Creative Loafing at Atlantic Station. My guest barista was the amazing Chandler Rentz, our Trainer/Educator with Batdorf & Bronson Atlanta. The first coffee we brewed was the delicious new crop Ethiopia Kochere, and when we ran out of that, we went into the Papua New Guinea Baroida. We had a blast, heard lots of the "This is the first time I've been able to drink coffee black" comments, and everyone was all smiles. We loved it. Photo and video was by the always awesome April Dominy. Music "We Will Become Silhouettes" covered by The Shins.
