pan SRUC seminar by: Andrew Barnes, Land Economy and Environment Research, SRUC 26th of February 2015. Government seeks to intervene within the livestock sector to support and compensate farmers for rapid reporting of exotic disease outbreaks. However, the effect of compensation on behaviours and animal keeper decision making, whilst having a conceptual basis, is less understood empirically. We present the results of a rapid evidence assessment conducted for Defra on the influence of compensation on rapid reporting behaviour. Overall, we answer 7 questions related to aspects of these compensation effects and find significant gaps in the literature which prove the link between compensation payments and rapid reporting. This has implications for further responsibility sharing agendas promoted by policy makers and for future research agendas.

Profile: WRAP was established in 2000 as an independent not-for-profit company limited by guarantee. It receives funding from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, the Northern Ireland Executive, Zero Waste Scotland, the Welsh Government and the European Union. WRAP (Waste & Resources Action Programme) works with businesses, individuals and communities to achieve a circular economy through helping them reduce waste, develop sustainable products and use resources in an efficient way. Project: WRAP is the lead organisation in an EU project called FUSIONS (Food Use for Social Innovation by Optimising Waste Prevention Strategies). This project is aiming to achieve a more resource- efficient Europe by significantly reducing food waste. There are 21 project partners in 13 countries. WRAP has carried out a feasibility study with 7 of the partners to test and evaluate how social innovations can help reduce food waste. Those 7 partners were based in Greece, Denmark, Hungary, Sweden, France and in various networks across Europe and were featured in the video. WRAP and the Take One team were anxious to produce the programme with the lightest of carbon footprints and in the most cost effective way. The Take One production team came up with the idea of filming a ‘TV studio’ style programme in the kitchens of South Lodge – a local five-star country hotel, with a Michelin-starred restaurant. A professional presenter and Sophie Easteal the WRAP FUSIONS project manager were filmed in the kitchen ‘studio’; pre-recorded Skype interviews with the 7 European partners were then played-in during filming at the appropriate moments - like live satellite links. In the final edited video, Sophie, the presenter and the European partners all appear to be interacting live. The 7 European partners were recorded using Skype as it enabled us save the financial and environmental costs of flying to these countries. Client Feedback: ‘A very capable team. They dealt with all the parts of the development, production and editing that I needed them to. Felt they were able to get on with things without checking everything with me. They spent a lot of time contacting the various people we needed them to film as part of the film and working with them to ensure their delivery met the needs of the film. This was in spite of different languages and timezones. The finished product is really good and just what was needed. The idea for the film – with the outside broadcasts was a real gem and worked excellently.’ Tel: 01403 256255 / 0207 1128565 Email: info@takeoneproductions.co.uk www.takeoneproductions.co.uk
