VIRUNGA IS THE INCREDIBLE TRUE STORY OF A GROUP OF BRAVE PEOPLE RISKING THEIR LIVES TO BUILD A BETTER FUTURE IN A PART OF AFRICA THE WORLD HAS FORGOTTEN AND A GRIPPING EXPOSE OF THE REALITIES OF LIFE IN THE CONGO. In the forested depths of eastern Congo lies Virunga National Park, one of the most bio-diverse places in the world and home to the last of the mountain gorillas. In this wild, but enchanted environment, a small and embattled team of park rangers - including an ex-child soldier turned ranger, a carer of orphan gorillas and a Belgian conservationist - protect this UNESCO world heritage site from armed militia, poachers and the dark forces struggling to control Congo's rich natural resources. When the newly formed M23 rebel group declares war in May 2012, a new conflict threatens the lives and stability of everyone and everything they've worked so hard to protect. www.virungamovie.com Director: Orlando von Einsiedel Producers: Joanna Natasegara & Orlando von Einsiedel Editor: Masahiro Hirakubo Cinematography: Franklin Dow & Orlando von Einsiedel Composer: Patrick Jonsson Assistant Producer: Patrick Vernon Executive Producers: Adam Del Deo, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jon Drever, Maxyne Franklin, Howard G. Millions of lives have been lost in DR Congo in recent years as a result of ongoing conflict. Dont let that number loose you. Every single one of those lives was a person like you and me. This is a raw vignette that I cut immediately after having shot and experienced a small amount of time in the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2009. This piece is very personal to me. I find it hard to explain with words the great darkness and even greater beauty that you experience in such a place. I will never forget the people I have had the privilege to meet in Congo. They are apart of me. This footage is part of a documentary about two child soldiers, currently in post production produced by Discover the Journey. Find out more at www.DTJ.org

This is a compilation of the best of as much of my footage as I could get my hands on from this year. Even after compression fracturing my L2 vertebra snowboarding 2 months prior my Freebord season starting. This was one amazing time. Hopefully 2014 will hold even more great things!
