Reincarnation is the idea that the soul or spirit, after biological death, begins a new life in a new body that may be human, animal or spiritual depending on the moral quality of the previous life's actions. The Neutral Ground is the transformational space where the soul is reincarnated. Stemmed and rooted deep down into center of all spirits is the ability to seek infinite light, love, and compassion. This video is our interpretation of reincarnation, Neutral Ground. This video depicts an interactive flythrough of one possible implementation, created by CMU Architecture and Civil Engineering students. Over a 14-week semester course, six students from Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Architecture and three from its Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering imagined what might be created on the one-acre rooftop of the U. S. Steel Tower -- the largest, highest place on top of any building on earth. The team analyzed the physical realities, realistic opportunities, and opportunistic challenges involved with creating a publicly assessable, self-funding, world-class attraction 840 feet in the air. Faithful to the structure and style of the already iconic building, the proposed 70,000-square-foot, multifunctional, glass-enclosed atrium covers the entire area and features two interior levels and sky deck promenade.
