HABIT is set in a four-walled, fully furnished, ranch house, designed by Marsha Ginsberg, with room for audiences to circulate around the outside of the set. Actors inhabited the set from 12:00 - 6:00 pm on May 1, 2010 in the Watermill Center studio space, performing the play on a loop, communicating only through the dialogue, improvising staging as it suits their needs: If they’re hungry, they cook; if they’re dirty, they wash—and the needs of the characters. Spectators circulated around the enclosure during these hours, observing the actors through the apartment’s windows, two-way mirrors, or in a separate room on a live, eight-camera video feed. The "privacy" of the house allowed the actors to employ a more "private" acting style—improvisatory, relaxed, filmic—even while they were in full public view. Sometimes the fight scene happened while someone was making a sandwich and someone else was taking a piss; sometimes it happens as one person tries to watch "Oprah" and the other is about take a shower—just like in real life. This film excerpt taken from the May 1st exhibition was shot and edited by Carlos Soto.

Con: Mounira Al Solh, Joana Bastos, Guy Ben Ner, C.A.S.I.T.A , Tehching Hsieh, David Levine, Ahmet Ögüt, Levi Orta, Mladen Stilinović, Pilvi Takala y Werker Magazine (Marc Roig Blesa y Rogier Delfos). Desde el 08 de Junio al 26 de Agosto. Martes / viernes, de 16 a 22 horas. Sábados y domingos, de 11 a 22 horas. Imagen y subtítulos: Videoframesh -- Matadero Madrid’s Nave 16 presents Our Work is Never Over, a group exhibition curated by Yael Messer that takes place within the context of PHotoEspaña 2012: From here. Context and internationalization. Yael Messer (b. 1982 in Israel, lives and works in Amsterdam) held a curatorial research fellowship at Matadero Madrid in November 2011, a period during which she shaped the concept of this show. The artists participating in the exhibition choose to reflect on the totality of their bio-political existence from within and through life itself: some document their everyday life and use this documentation as an artistic work, others frame their artistic acts as identical to any other form of labor, and a few make the gray area between artistic process and immaterial labor part of their own life. With: Mounira Al Solh, Joana Bastos, Guy Ben Ner, C.A.S.I.T.A , Tehching Hsieh, David Levine, Ahmet Ögüt, Levi Orta, Mladen Stilinović, Pilvi Takala y Werker Magazine (Marc Roig Blesa y Rogier Delfos). From the 8th of June to the 26th of August Tuesday / Friday, from 4pm to 10pm. Saturdays and Sundays, from 11am a 10pm. Image and Subtitles: Videoframesh
