"Marvelous Margaretville!" is a lively, revealing documentary about life in the magnificent northern Catskill Mountains of New York State in the early years of the 21st Century. It is meant to provide a record for posterity, as well as to enlighten those who have heard tales of this wondrous place, but want a better view of what small-town life in the mountains is really all about. The film consists largely of interviews with local residents — full-timers and part-timers; old-timers and newcomers; young and old; rich and poor; farmers, artists, teachers, workers, students and a host of others — in which they express many shades of opinion, sometimes in stark contrast to one another, about the quality of their lives. The interviews are interspersed with scenes depicting not only the beauty of Delaware County's Catskill Park (in which greater Margaretville is located), but the myriad of activities and events that take place there throughout the year. "Marvelous Margaretville!" was a year in the making, and, as far as can be ascertained, is the first full-length documentary to be centered on Margaretville and its sister villages and hamlets of Andes, Arkville, Big Indian, Denver, Bovina Center, Fleischmanns, Halcottsville, High Mount, Kelly Corners, New Kingston, Roxbury, Roxbury Run, and Pine Hill. While it focuses on Margaretville, this colorful and thought-provoking film provides, by extension, a glimpse of life throughout the Catskills and, in fact, of rural America in general.+ More details
