A mermaid caught in a fishing net, lying (presumed dead) on a sandy beach. Beaches covered in trash. Dead birds with belly full of plastic. These images, as powerful as they are, don’t always work for me. My message is one of strength and hope. Empowerment. Dream big. I wanted the message to personify the river… We may have polluted it to the point of being a superfund site, taken away half her flow, but the Duwamish still stands. The Duwamish still carries Seattle on its back, our industry, our pollution, our …humanity, but still she flows, ever powerful, unstoppable. This power, the power of nature to recover once we take our boot off its neck and give it a chance, is the power of hope. The most powerful movements find their roots in hope.

        • A River Reborn: Restoring Salmon Habitat along the Duwamish River

          from 3BL Media / Added

Just south of Seattle, Boeing has created the largest habitat restoration in the Lower Duwamish Waterway, transforming nearly one mile of former industrial waterfront into a wetland resource that improves Puget Sound salmon runs. This habitat work was coordinated with the Natural Resource Trustees, a group made up of local tribes and state and federal agencies, including the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). A video, released by NOAA, highlights this unique project as an example of what can be accomplished through a public-private partnership. Watch to learn about what went into this transformation and how the habitat benefits fish, wildlife and the communities of the Duwamish River.

My good friend and co-chair of River City Skate Park, Mark Johnson, had a rootsy, soulful band called Amateur Radio Operator. He invited me to their practice space in this awesome 100 year old building to check it out. So glad that I just invested in this little Canon Vixia! I had so much fun filming their practice and just being in that great warehouse space. This was my first attempt at making videos for fun and got me excited about the opportunities. I had been making other people's corporate videos and films for so long, this project came at the right time. This song will always have a special place in my heart.
