Dutch Invertuals presents: 'COHESION' Dutch Invertuals is a collective of individual designers who are expanding the limits of their profession. Designers with different backgrounds, but with one thing in common: experiment is principal. They present the research into the meaning of cohesion. About the interrelation between objects, materials, parts and dimensions. They took on the challenge to work outside the canvas. To break away from the almost mandatory dimensions of 'the product' each of the designers developed one element, a layer. Together these layers create the foundation of a visual experiment, a spatial experience. This exhibition is a prelude to the next step, a new material, technique or insight. Dutch Invertuals: Alissa + Nienke, Arnout Meijer, Brit van Nerven & Roos Gomperts Daphna Laurens, Dienke Dekker, Edhv, Jetske Visser & Michiel Martens Jeroen Wand, Thomas Vailly & Laura Lynn Jansen, Nina van Bart, Raw Color, Studio Mieke Meijer Initiated and curated by Wendy Plomp Photograpy /Teaser: Raw Color Open: 18-26 October 2014 Daily 10:30 till 20:00 H. Dutch Invertuals is a collective of individual designers who are always in search of the limits of their profession. They will be presenting new pieces that reflect their contemporary views in images, objects, materials, insights and stories during this year’s Salone del Mobile from 9th of April till the 14th of April 2013 Milan. Imagination is the force that lingers between logic and inspiration. It acts as a guide in our daily dilemmas and helps us to understand and cope with the world we are living in. It is this energy that thrives us to push forward. It helps us to let go of the old and make way for the new. It’s a mechanism that sparks new connections between the known but beyond the obvious. This is where transformation happens. New formats and perspectives form along the way as we are being pushed into the future by the power of imagination. By conducting research and experiments the Invertuals have transposed the theme of transform onto contemporary designs. Chemical reactions, rotation-moulded experiments, unfinished constructions, color science and woven techniques are transformed by imagination. Dutch Invertuals: Brit van Nerven, Edhv, Jeroen Wand, Jetske Visser, Kirstie van Noort & Rogier Arents, Luuk Van Den Broek, Max Lipsey, Raw Color, Roos Gomperts & Thalia De Jong, Rachel Griffin & Emilie Pallard , Studio Mieke Meijer. Founder & curator Wendy Plomp Illustrations and Animation Tim Enthoven & Julia Veldman Specific to Julia’s and Tims work is the narrative character. Tim creates complex representations that are part of a larger scenario. His work consists out of drawings, installations and objects. Julia produces and writes her own animations and videos in which she experiments with the combination of image and storyline. Transform inspired this duo to explore the different aspects of alchemy. They created a system of concrete and abstract elements such as crystal, bone, corrosion, dispute and empathy. This developed into a distinctive combination of natural elements and human emotions wherein the reflections of the Invertuals are captured. For the International Architecture Biannual Rotterdam, Edhv teamed up with Urhahn Urban Design to create an interactive game for the City of Eindhoven. This game shows the player how Eindhoven is structured. By playing the game, information exchange is being provoked between the player and the game. The player can build a profile by choosing different option in urban program. By doing so the game will alter its information according to the profile and show different data and images to each player. In the end the players can find buildings or locations that match their profile and along the way, learn something about Eindhoven. Dutch Invertuals presents ‘CONFLICT’ Dutch Invertuals is a collective of individual designers who are always in search of the limits of their profession. They present new pieces in which their contemporary viewpoints are expressed in images, objects, materials, insights and stories. “We are confronted by conflict on a daily base. It's hidden in our daily routines and often exposes itself in many different emotions like: a dilemma, a doubt, a misconception, disgust, pain, regret and so on. But it is this energy that thrives us to push forward. It's the constant getting rid of the old to replace with something new. It's a mechanism that forces us to choose side and by doing so we keep in motion of renewal. New formats and points of view form along the way as we are being pushed into the future by the power of conflict.” By conducting research and experiments the Invertuals have transposed the theme of conflict onto contemporary designs. Chemical reactions, rotation-moulded experiments, unfinished constructions, handcraft or technical crafts, bone as a new material, color science and woven techniques have formed their inspiration or is the choice as a result of conflict. WENDY PLOMP Initiator and Curator As a designer and initiator of Dutch Invertuals, Wendy Plomp tells the story of a design collective: born from the idea that a mix of strong individuals can create a wonderful unexpected world in which the different disciplines reflect the multi-faced nature of design. Dutch Invertuals are: Adrian Petrucci & Olivia de Gouveia, Breg Hanssen, Edhv, Jeroen Wand, Jetske Visser & Michiel Martens, Kirstie van Noort & Rogier Arents, Max Lipsey, Studio Mieke Meijer and Raw Color. Dutch Invertuals exhibition UNTOUCHABLES RETOUCHED “Almost unnoticed we have shaped a society without danger. Nevertheless things happen to us we can’t control. ‘Untouchables Retouched’ is a visual dialogue about re-balancing and re-valuating the beauty of vulnerability.” By conducting research and experiments the Invertuals have transposed the theme of vulnerability onto contemporary designs. Balance, delicacy, curiosity and transience were sources of inspiration. Dutch Invertuals is a collective of individual designers who are always in search of the limits of their profession. Burners This is a series of visual poetry on the theme fragility. The posters consisted of blotter paper that were silkscreen printed with a specially designed typeface. We wanted to create the most fragile image we could think of. One can light the poster with a glowing fuse and it starts burning and glowing really slow. In the end all that is left is an image in ashes. This way the poster becomes a kind of micro event in itself. It was really hard to get the blotter paper in this size because mostly the paper is pre-cut on thin roles. We had to fly it in from the factory. Luckily kind people from the manufacturer helped us; otherwise we could not have done this. The hardest part was the screen-printing. Because the material is really thin once you print it, it tears really fast and sticks to the screen. You really have to see a poster burn live. It’s like magic. It’s a pity that it is not possible to preserve the ash image but hey, that makes it even more special. See more at: http://www.edhv.nl/portfolio/burners/

For this years edition of Dutch Invertuals with the theme of fragility, Edhv created a poster that becomes an event by it’s self. The poster consists of text or image printed on blotter paper. When lit the poster starts glowing and burning until there is almost nothing left. What remains is an ash image so fragile that one breath can destroy it. http://www.edhv.nl/edhv/?p=5241
