Each week we’re looking at one of the beliefs Christians hold onto as truth where skeptics might respond with, “I doubt it!” Today Pastor John will fo- cus on the topic of the Bible. Maybe you’ve heard someone say something like, “There’s lots of good things in the Bible, but you shouldn’t believe everything it says. After all, isn’t it just another book filled with legions, contradictions, myths, and mistakes? How can you really believe it’s his- torically accurate.” How might a believer respond to that question? Is that true? Or, was author Dan Brown onto something in his fictional work “The Divinci Code” where Dr. Teabing stated, “The Bible is a product of man, my dear. Not of God. Man created it as a historical record... and it has evolved through countless translations, additions, and revisions. History has never had a definitive version of the book.” How can believers respond to these type of statements? Today, let’s allow the Holy Spirit to teach us the truth found in God’s Word!

It’s the #1 question that causes believers and unbelievers to question God, “Why would a loving God allow evil and suffering to exist?” It doesn’t make sense. It’s the question that creeps in at times when we are most vulnerable and weak. Together let’s try to make sense of something that at times makes no sense and we walk through the fire of suffering and evil in this world.

Today Pastor John is kicking off a new series titled “I Doubt It” which is meant to give us more confidence in sharing the hope we have in Christ with those who have questions (or doubts). Each Sunday for the next five weeks we are going to be dealing with tough questions or statements people have made about the Christian faith. Today, it is a question of exclusivity. How can we say that Christianity is the only true religion that offers a way to God? Isn’t this exclusive attitude the reason we have so much disunity and divisiveness in our world today? Let’s see how the Lord might lead us to answer this question today!

Have you been on a road trip? Maybe it was just after high school graduation or over a college break. Or, perhaps it was your honeymoon with your new spouse or the first family adventure after your kids were born. The truth is, we’ve all been on a road trip at one point in our lives. Today, we’re going to explore God’s Story of how He sent His people on a road trip to the Promised Land (Cannan). Along the way, they are challenged to readjust. We, too are challenged to look at our lives as a road trip and by God’s help see where we need to readjust our lives and wrap them around Jesus - the center. May the Holy Spirit open our hearts and minds to see what that looks like for each of us today!

(A clip from the movie "Les Miserables" was featured during this message; it has been omitted due to copyright restrictions.) How many of us have experienced a collision? Maybe you haven’t experienced an automobile collision, but you have probably experienced a relational collision with a family member, co-worker, spouse, neighbor, or friend. We all have! Today we are opening up Mark 2 to observe numerous collisions Jesus had with the religious elite of His day (the Pharisees.) In these accounts we not only learn something about the heart of Christ, but also the problem within our own hearts. Today Jesus offers a new way to live as His children. May the Lord open our hearts to hear!

You’re at an intersection and you have to make a decision. You can stay were you are but that’ll bog up traffic. You enter the intersection but that’s risky and involves not necessarily knowing what’s going to happen next. What are you going to do? Abraham, although he lived thousands of years ago, faced a similar situation. Today we’re going to talk about why he left so much to follow God even when he didn’t know what was next and how that applies to us today.

Today we start off the New Year with a new series of messages titled Intersections. As many of us know, intersections can be dangerous. Crossroads or intersections are places of turns and transitions, where discerning decisions often have to be made. Which way will I turn? Do I stop? Is it safe to move ahead? As we move into a new year it’s important to ask similar kinds of questions as individuals and as a church. Today, though, we are challenged to share testimonies of God’s grace during the past year, stopping (as it were) to give thanks for what the Lord has done in our lives and promises to do in the future.

Tonight is a very special night! It’s our prayer that you feel comfortable joining in singing the carols, hearing the real Christmas story, lighting the candles, and experiencing just a taste of the same joy Mary, Joseph, the Shepherds, and even the angels experienced upon hearing of the Savior’s birth. The Messiah/Deliverer has come! Just as God’s people longed to be delivered in the time of Moses, and also before the time of Christ, God’s people are still longing to meet the Deliverer and share in the Christmas joy. It is our prayer that you would come with faith believing that this little child born in a stable and laid in a manger (and grew up to suffer, die, and rise from the dead) still has the power to cast out our sin and enter in, and be born in us today. “Lord, may our hopes and fears of all the years be met in thee tonight!”

As a church, we urged you during Advent to conspire to go against the standard practices of the Christmas season by Spending Less, Giving More, Worshipping Fully, and Loving All. Then, on Christmas Eve, we talked about The Deliverer we have in Jesus Christ. As we move past that season, the question becomes, “What Now?” In a time of year when depression runs rampant, we are looking to tackle this question Biblically, as well as take a look at a sometimes forgotten portion of the life of Jesus in Matthew 2.
