Director; Ella Mesma Concept; Ella Mesma Choreography; Mickael 'Marso' Riviere and Ella Mesma Music; Sparkii Ski Mentoring: Jonzi D Lighting/Technical; Leon Smith EVOL- was originally created by Ella in 2010 at The Surgery (Jonzi D Productions) over a two day research period. In 2011, Ella Mesma gained Arts Council funding, the piece has been revisited and extended in residency at Yorkshire Dance Centre and choreographer Mickael 'Marso' Riviere has been brought in to work on and refine the movement and direction, along with Producer Sparkii Ski working on the music.
EVOL was inspired by research into the grey areas around sexual consent and rape within relationships. A 2007 government report in England estimates that between 75 and 95 per cent of rape crimes are never reported to the police, usually because the attacker is known to the victim personally. The piece is based on 'When Yes means No, No means Maybe, and the Blanket of Confusion in Between' (Lisa R. Wilson) EVOL Thanks to; Jonzi D, Jenni Wren, Jean Magnard, Anthony Ekundayo Lennon, Mariana Whitehouse, Wieke Eringa, Nefeli Tsioutsi, Lisa Bartlett and all at Brook Advisory Centre, The Arts Council
