Jessica Laporte (Tufts B.A. International Relations 2014) is helping Haitian women build a local business that will fight the spread of cholera. The business is called “Kouzin Dlo” in Haitian Creole and “Community Chlorinators” in English. It is the first venture launched by the “Archimedes Project”, an ideation lab, founded by Faith Wallace-Gadsden (Tufts Ph.D. Microbiology 2014), focused on creating clean water and sanitation social enterprises around the world. Disaster Mesh airdrops instant wifi access points following disasters. Survivors are able to use these wifi points to indicate their immediate needs or whether they are safe. This data is in turn categorized and shared with governmental organizations and NGO's, who can use the data to efficiently allocate resources and relief efforts. Disaster Mesh was started by high school students participating in Exponential Youth Camp (XYC), a high tech summer camp for high schoolers created by IDEAco and Singularity University.+ More details
