In the second part of this exclusive video interview, origami artist Ross Symons talks about breaking out alone and folding for the big brands. “Focus on the things that you are doing when you’re supposed to be doing something else.” In part one of this exclusive video interview, artist Ross Symons elaborated on the art of origami. Now in part two he gets down to business. The trickiest part of setting up a business is finding what you really love, says Symons. Symons quit his job as a web developer in an advertising agency in the middle of 2014, when he discovered a passionate fascination with origami. His Instagram account, White On Rice, had been gaining some attention, and out of nowhere he got a call from Christian Dior in Paris. Symons created a stop motion for Dior, and since then he has worked on installations, social media campaigns, and gifts for brands like Adidas, Red Bull, Old Khaki and Polo. “I definitely do enjoy working with my hands much more than I expected to," says Symons. “Now that I am making stuff I feel very fulfilled in my job. Creating something that you can give to someone, or hang up or pass around and show people, is a lot more satisfying than sending them a link to a website." Ross Symons quit his job in the advertising industry and became an (almost accidental) origami artist. “I never imagined ever becoming an artist, ever,” says Ross Symons. “My dad always uses this quote, he says ‘if you don't know where you’re going any road will take you there.’ And that’s kind of how my life has unfolded up to this point.” Two years ago Symons wouldn’t have been able to predict that he would be so immersed in the ancient art of folding paper. He began 365 photo project on Instagram to learn some new origami skills and it gathered quite a following. A few months in, he quit his job as a web developer at a big advertising agency and his life as an artist began. In traditional origami, a single sheet of paper is folded in a series of steps to create a model, with more intricate forms requiring more a more complex sequence. The first piece of origami Symons ever made was a crane in 2002. He can now make a crane in under 30 seconds with his eyes closed and many of his own designs can take him up to two hours of focused-folding to pull off. In the first half of a two part interview, Symons talks about how his journey started and what a day in the life of an origami artist involves. Watch part two, where Symons talks about the business of going solo.

Working at home, freedom to enjoy life. Let's face it, how many of you have said "I love going to work EVERYDAY"? Not many. The truth is a standard 9-5 or shiftwork takes us away from our core or our family.......and that's not for everyone. Why settle for anything less than extraordinary? Not everyone is happy to live like a worker bee, or be content with just getting by on that one wage. Jump outside the box! See beyond those walls you have had around you. Start living the life you've been dreaming of. Get the freedom to enjoy life. You only get one life, just one chance to give it all you've got! Why live to work? What if you could get to that place where you were enjoying life and work was running in the background? A semi-automated way to earn an income. Sounds too good to be true, doesn't it? But what if it wasn't, what if there was a way to get to this point? You just have to take that first step. http://www.mof2015.com/
