The 3+minute film explains why bears make perfect conservation ambassadors. Please use it, download it, share it, feature it in your slide programs and talks. It is not for any one organization, but for anyone dedicated to bears and what they bring to the health of our planet. Made possible by a generous altruistic financial contribution and a great partnership with TriFilm. Our intention was to fast-track the bear conservation messaging that so many of us try to convey when talking about our work - it's been very popular so far!

For an inventor, perhaps the biggest thrill is for your design to perform even better than you imagined. Mattias Hansson is a naval architect and one of three inventors, including Bj?rnar Helgesen, SMG, and Bj?rn Moving, OMT, who together in close cooperation, designed and developed Caterpillar Marine?s new twin fin propulsion concept, which brought home the 2014 Technical Innovation Award from the Seatrade Maritime Awards in Dubai. The first twin fin installation was a retrofit on a seismic survey vessel earlier in 2014, replacing existing azimuth thrusters. The ship reported no reliability problems, a 30 percent gain in fuel efficiency and performance improvement of 84 percent in bollard pull thrust during seismic conditions. These benefits are expected to boost the customer?s revenue by approximately $3.3 million per year. Read more in the 2014 Sustainability Report. A short animation about our Valuing the Ocean strand of work, which is part of the wider Gulbenkian Oceans Initiative (GOI) launched by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon in 2013. The GOI is concerned with the economic valuation of marine ecosystem services and centres on a specific pilot study in Portugal. A special contribution of the Foundation's UK Branch is to host a marine 'laboratory' with a small number of NGOs keen to explore how we may better communicate the role of the ocean in human wellbeing and so increase the environmental sector's capacity to influence how we share and manage the ocean's resources in the best interests of society for the long term.

GEN celebrating 15 years: The world in 15 years’ time A high-level dialogue to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Geneva Environment Network (GEN) was organized at the International Environment House II (7-9 chemin de Balexert) on Tuesday 20 January. Hosted by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and supported by the Swiss Federal Office of Environment, GEN – www.genevaenvironmentnetwork.org – has been, for the last fifteen years, the Geneva hub for a myriad of actors to meet and debate pressing environmental challenges. With the objective of celebrating a very diverse network, which offers interactive debates with key actors of the ‘International Geneva’, a lively panel discussion with personalities from governments, the United Nations family, NGOs, universities and foundations on how key players imagine the world will be in 15 years’ time was organized. Panelists provided visionary speeches on the state of the planet, how to best transition to a more sustainable world, and discuss the role of Geneva as global hub for environmental governance, contributing to the Post-2015 Agenda.
