In this award winning documentary we explore the life of a modern Christian martyr who gave his life bravely defending a young woman in Alabama during the civil rights era. This is the story of a young Episcopalian priest who heard the call to serve in one of the most dangerous social upheavals in American history, and gave his life for it. "Amazed" from Sam Hensley's "And It Goes Like This..." Shot in Hendersonville, NC, December 2008. Panasonic DVX100A. This was a very informal project. We had a brainstorm a few months before our annual winter youth conference. We shot whenever we had a free moment, over a couple of days, to put this together. VIEWING NOTE: Please make sure the HD is on when you watch. I have noticed that viewing with HD off causes some nasty audio sync drift, and about by 1.30 into the video you'll have sound that's at least a second off from the picture.

Responding to the upcoming 150th anniversary of the massacre of 38 Dakota warriors, Rev. Canon Two Bulls, Missioner for Indian Work and Multicultural Ministry for the Episcopal Church in Minnesota, chose to capture the event's meaning through a vibrant and unforgettable image. “Seven or eight years ago when I lived and served in the Diocese Los Angeles, I began teaching a class on Art and Spirituality and the marketing Native American Indian Art,” continues Rev. Two Bulls. “From these two experiences, coupled with my own art-making, I found that individual minds are opened by art. Art can transform the individual. When Native artists create art that is not necessarily tribally themed, non-Native viewers often voice surprise. In this process some stereotypes fade away. I try to respond authentically to what I feel called to create in art. I hope that whatever the resulting piece is, that it causes the viewer to think. In my painting I leave it to the viewers to interpret for themselves what it says to them. Are the tears Whipple’s own from mourning? Or are they the tears of God raining down upon him?” The 38 Tears of Bishop Whipple is being used as the icon for the 155th Annual Convention of the Episcopal Church in Minnesota, which will be held September 21-22 on the Lower Sioux Indian Community’s Jackpot Junction Casino in Morton, Minnesota.
