This week's message is on giving back to God - the One who gave us everything we have in the first place. Before delivering the message, however, we have the testimony of a young man and his family who are called to be missionaries to the tribes in the western Amazon, in Peru. Michael, who did not grow up in the church, heard God calling to him as he was carrying the bodies of our heroes in Afghanistan down the steep mountain slopes during combat there. Now called to missions, the tribes they will be ministering to are the same group as those who martyred Jim Elliot and his four fellow missionaries in 1956 (told about in the movie released a few years ago, "End of the Spear.") They are a fierce people with centuries of wantonly killing others ingrained in them. Yet, the Holy Spirit is at work in them, too. When they see the love and forgiveness of Christ in action, many of them are "released" of the guilt and shame they've carried in them all along. After this wonderful introduction to a family who have decided to give up everything they have to follow Christ, Pastor Jerry spoke to us on giving noting Jesus' "last time (teaching) to the people in the temple area is about money!" Mark 12:41-44. When you are faithful with what God gives you, He assures that you will prosper in return. But, what He is most interested in is WHY we give! God sees our motive - that we show our love for Him - not how much (just as with the widow who gave all she had). Doesn't everything you have come from God? Do you trust God? Doesn't tithing demonstrate you acknowledge what you have comes from God and you trust Him to continue to provide for your needs? If Pastor Jerry tells us how important it is to tithe, do you really think he's just greedy and wants to take our money? Is he just being a legalistic preacher? Or do you, to your credit and blessing, recognize our pastor wants us to prosper! To be blessed and not cursed! To do what's right before God and demonstrate you love and trust Him? "When it comes to giving, God not only looks at the portion we give, but the PROPORTION we give." It's not about buying God's favor - God cannot be bought! But you CAN receive His promises.

Pastor Gary Combs continues the sermon series "Rise Again - Come Again" with this third message from 1 Corinthians 15 about the nature of the resurrection body that believers will one day receive. Do you have questions about the nature of the body that will be raised upon Christ's return? Do you wonder what happens to the body of the one who is lost at sea, dismembered in an explosion or cremated? How can God raise such a one? What about the infant or child who dies, will they receive a child's body or an adult one? What about the deaf, the blind, the mentally handicapped? What kind of body will they receive? The Bible says, that believers get a body like Christ's!
