NEW : QUICK TEST between this lens and the Lumix pancake 14mm 1:2.5 here : http://vimeo.com/20788176 AT LEAST I've found the PERFECT WIDE SHARP and CHEAP lens for the GH2 !!! It's a C-mount Pentax/Cosmicar 6mm 1:1.2 lens I've bought 9.99€ (12.50$) on Ebay ! The rear barrel had to be modified for 20€ (watch pictures below) to fit on the C-mount to micro 4/3 adapter (Kipon). This 6mm focal lenght on the GH2 gives a huge vignetting on micro 4/3 sensor, but thanks to the new crop 1:1 GH2 function, the vignetting is disappearing completely ! This 6mm lens with the crop function gives nearly the same frame (same width but less height) than on the Lumix 14mm 1:2.5, but much much more faster. It's a sharp lens, even with the crop. In 24X36 eq. it's a 30mm. This lens is incredible for GH2, there is no other competition for such a fast lens ! In this movie you will watch daylight tests (always @ 1:1.2, 1/50 shutter speed, 160 asa) with a 22€ Polaroid 43mm variable ND filter and a 40.5 to 43mm step-up ring, there's my girlfriend preparing her new collection for children "Pitchoovintage". Then you will watch night test, from 160 to 3200 asa, always @ 1:1.2 and 1/50 shutter speed. GH2 24P Crop mode 1:1 No CC from 160 to 3200 asa from 1/25 to 1/50 shutter speed C-mount Pentax/Cosmicar 6mm 1:1.2 edited on Adobe Premiere CS5 music : Elusive "Intro" + "writing on the wall" from "Pressure Drop" EP duration : 4mn49sec HERE IS AN INTERESTING LINK FOR HOMEMADE C-MOUNT MACHINING : http://cjeastwd.blogspot.com/2009/06/adapting-lens-to-fit-mount.html And a post (in french) from my friend Christophe about the crop : http://www.christophemilet.com/?p=1589

        • SLR Magic / Noktor Hyper Prime 12mm 1.6 Review

This is a review video for the SLR Magic / Noktor Hyper Prime 12mm f1.6 lens. I shot this video including the sample videos on a Panasonic GH2. Here is what I wrote on my original sample video - I was at the November 5th fireworks display in Glasgow (in Scotland) and grabbed a few bits of video to test out the new SLR Magic / Noktor 12mm F1.6 on my Lumix GH2. Most of it is shot at F2 as if you go wider than that you can get a lot more flare which some people like but personally I prefer less flare. My first impressions of the lens are great, build quality is the first thing that jumps out at you, the lens is all metal and absolutely solid. Out of all my micro four thirds lenses this is the only one I would feel comfortable defending myself against a mugger with! The focus and aperture rings are very smooth and don't move very easily so they wont slip or get knocked by accident which I love. Sharpness is good and I'm more than happy with it. I mentioned above that you get flaring wider than F2 which some people like and it did bother me a little but its main competitor the Olympus 12mm can't go wider than F2 so it isn't a big deal, at least you can go wider if you need the light and in many situations flare won't even be an issue, only if you have bright lights near the edges of the frame is it most noticable. Using it on my stabiliser it works better than the Olympus 9-18 that I have been using on it as the extra weight just helps smooth things better. I would certainly recommend you have a look at this lens as not only is it the cheaper option of a fast wide angle lens for micro four thirds it has so many great features many people would rather have it over the more expensive Olympus even if cost was not a factor. My thoughts after using the lens for a couple of months - I absolutely love it! When I'm shooting weddings outdoors I tend to use the 14-140 lens as it is more suitable for working in wider spaces and brighter light. Indoors however I pretty much just swap between the Olympus 45mm 1.8 and the SLR Magic / Noktor 12mm 1.6. It really has become as I suspected one of my most used lenses and I am so happy to have it in my kit, definitely an essential! Adam Troup
