This is an entry to the 2015 'Flame Challenge'. This year's question is 'What is Sleep?'. The Flame Challenge is hosted by Alan Alda at Stony Brook University in New York. The challenge involves 11-year olds from around the world putting a basic scientific question to Scientists. These questions are always hideously, and deceptively complex.. The answer must be accurate, but must balance depth, sophistication, and appeal so that an audience of 11-year olds can easily walk away with an answer. Find out more about the guy in the video at www.rohankapitany.com Special thanks to Rachel Searston and Kristyn Hensby for help filming. Thanks to everyone who offered advice and feedback throughout the process. *Comments have been disabled until after the competition has been judged. Review What You've Learned: Sunlight and light from white light bulbs (and flashlights) is actually a mixture of all colored light. And this colored light bounces off of objects or gets soaked up by the objects. Objects have color because certain colored light is bouncing off of them! And why does the light itself have color? Your brain makes up a color for light with different amounts of energy! Video created for the 2014 Flame Challenge, a science education contest held by the Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science at Stony Brook University.
