With a baby on-board, many women are fearful of doing anything that might rock the boat. Health officials find too many expectant moms are not getting a flu shot. “We recommend that all pregnant women get vaccinated against the flu. Traditionally we haven’t been very good at giving it to pregnant women,” says Dr. Christina Cavanagh, who is a family physician with Lee Memorial Health System. Vaccination rates hover around 50% for pregnant women- who may fear getting the shot could harm their baby. Research finds the opposite is true. Getting the flu during pregnancy carries a higher rate of premature birth or miscarriage. It is also dangerous for mom. “Pregnant women we know are at much higher risk of getting complications from the flu. They can develop pneumonia, a higher rate of being hospitalized and even death from flu,” says Dr. Cavanagh. While this year’s flu mutated after the vaccine was created, getting the shot still provides protection and should lessen the severity of illness. Babies can’t get a flu shot until they turn six months old- so they are totally dependent on mom. “It takes several months for the baby’s immune system to really develop their own protection so those first few months they’re reliant on any antibodies that they’ve gotten from mom prior to delivery,” says Dr. Cavanagh. As prospective moms count down to delivery, they would be wise to consider there are several more months left in flu season. Influenza- it’s nothing to sneeze at. It can be widespread and serious. Despite health officials stressing the value of the flu shot, the illness kills an estimated 36,000 Americans a year and a quarter million are hospitalized. “This time of year we’re seeing quite a bit of flu, it’s still early in the season,” says Dr. Jeffery Johns. He works in Lee Memorial Health System’s Convenient Care clinics. A common query he hears: what should you do about the flu? “That’s a good question whether or not you should come in for the flu or not,” Dr. Johns says. “If you feel you’re at home and you’re not able to take care of your symptoms, maybe getting dehydrated, vomiting, diarrhea…” Then maybe your flu needs a doctor. If you catch it early, you maybe have the option of prescription medication. Tamiflu is an antiviral drug approved for influenza. If given in the first 48 to 72 hours - it can shorten the duration of symptoms. Most treatment consists of symptom relief; many times you can find what you need over-the-counter. “There’s simple things like Tylenol, ibuprofen that can help with aches and pains from the flu. There are certain things like ginger and that can be good for nausea. If you have the flu brace yourself for an extended recovery. It could take weeks to get your strength back. When it comes to fighting the flu the best thing doctor’s can give you- is a shot of prevention. Who is my Enemy on Prophecy Headline News 11-03-14 The News is hot and the whole world is in chaos and today’s show ”Who is my enemy” on Prophecy Headline news at noon will take up the important issues that are in the world today. The issues from the Middle East, USA, Kobani, Syria, and America are in the stream of events today. Plus we will discuss Kissinger’s NWO, Death with Dignity, and the Oil situation. But we will also discuss the issue of “who is my enemy” more personally! Moreover, todays show “Who is my Enemy on Prophecy Headline news” begins with David’s words! It was David in Psalm 41 and verse 9, who said “mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, which did eat of my bread, hath lifted up his heel against me.” The Lord said of himself in Zechariah chapter 13 and verse 6, when he was asked “what are these wounds in thine hands”; he would then answer saying “those with which I was wounded in the house of my friends”! Many today lie in wait to deceive, here I speak directly to the people of God and as the Lord pointed out in Jeremiah chapter 4 saying “my people is foolish [silly, thoughtless, imprudent], they have not known me [many will say unto me on that day Lord, Lord; but I will say unto them I never knew you, depart from me, you who are workers of iniquity], they are sottish [stupid] children, and they have none understanding [unsympathetic, inconsiderate, unthoughtful ].” This gives us look at what the people of God were like, as it is with many who are supposed to be followers of the Lord. Furthermore it says “they are wise [intelligent, clever] to do evil [malevolent, sinful, immoral, vicious], but to do good they have no knowledge [no understanding to do good, to do well, to follow those things which please God]”!
