A short film displaying my first attempts at free lensing in both 4K and 96fps with my new Lumix GH4. I was fortunate enough to capture UW's famous cherry blossoms right at their full bloom, but me and my camera's way of seeing things may be a little different than yours... The Song of this film is Zeds Dead's remix of Blue Foundation's song "Eyes On Fire." I am not claiming this song as my own, but merely using it under the privileges of the creative commons.

This is a re-edited version of a boudoir video that I shot in 2013. Shot on Canon 7D, Zeiss Distogon 28mm 2.8 and Zeiss Planar 50mm 1.7. There is some free lensing (lens whacking) in there as well. The track is 'Victory' by Kutz

This is one of the looser and more experimental films I've ever done. I wanted to try the technique known as "Lens Whacking" or "Free Lensing." This is where you actually detach the lens from the camera (in this case the lens is a a Canon 50mm 1.8). The result is random light leaks, distortions in focus, a lot more spontaneity and energy, a more 1960s filmlike look, a dreamlike quality, and to me, a whole lot more fun. I spent a great deal of my time learning to stabilize my shots to the point where they were too slick and smooth for my taste. This grunges it up just enough for me. I didn't do any color grading, since this was just a study in the technique and I didn't really want a finished film. An alternate music video version of the short film I directed and edited "ZOMBIE: It's What's for Dinner". This version came about during the edit process while I was stuck in a creative rut and helped get the final edit back on track. ZOMBIE: It's What's For Dinner In a post-apocalyptic world where hordes of zombies dine on humans, one man decides to turn the tables. This zombie short film turns the zombie apocalypse upside down, where the living hunt the zombies for survival. Using a Canon 7D with Canon lenses, we shot this piece in about 16 hours, splitting between two weekends. The piece was then edited in Adobe Premiere Pro CS6. This ist my first test with the technique "lens whacking" or also called "free lensing". You take off the lens and hold it infront of the camera and try not to destroy your sensor ;) All light effects "light leaks", all colors, all the focussing is done JUST with this technique and inside the camera. In post i just added some contrast and sharpness. Nothing else! The color flimmering is also due to tv-light in the background, to make it more interesting. Really fun technique, you can get a lot closer to objects, that with the lens on the camera, kind of a macro view. I will definitely use this technique for lots of things in the future. Tested with: Panasonic Lumix GH4, 12-35mm 2,8F and Canon 50mm 1,4 F Lenses. http://www.cara-kerr.com

A hike to the cross in Palm Desert, CA was a great opportunity to put my lens whacking skills to the test. Stick around until about 0:28 for some creative time remapping. Shot on the Panasonic GH4 + Metabones Speedbooster (Canon EF) + Nikon 50mm f/1.8. All shots are filmed while lens whacking @ 96fps, f/4, infinity focus, 1/200 shutter speed. Variable ND filter. Edit + Time Remapping in Premiere Pro. Color Grading in After Effects with Color Finesse. Music: "Re:Volution" by I, The Breather --> http://bit.ly/1rvE0Of
