The Ingham County Land Bank is one of several groups here in Lansing, MI working to address the issues that surround sustainable local food production, and they accomplish this in a variety of ways. Whether through partnering with the Greater Lansing Food Bank and the Lansing Roots program, or helping to repurpose flood plain land into urban gardens, the ICLB's Garden Project is all about finding new ways to empower local folks through settings that encourage locally-based food production. In some cases, these urban gardens exist in what was formerly designated a food desert, and as such, the Garden Project is also working to alleviate issues of local food justice. Join me as I spend a couple days with a few of the folks that have helped make the Garden Project what it is today!

Seed bombs are a combination of soil, clay, flower/herb/veggie seeds, and water — all rolled into a ball, dried, and used for super-easy seed sowing. They're simple and cheap to make, and are great green favors for a seed-starting party, an Easter gathering, an outdoorsy wedding, or any spring-and-summertime get together. And you don't even have to be a guerilla gardener to use them.
