Adventuring with one of the best skiers on the planet, in one of the World's wildest places: Baja In 2002 I got a phone call that would change my life forever. The first thing I heard was laughing, followed by “hey, its Glen Plake….lets go water ski!” In 2004 I had the chance to go to Acapulco with Glen for a Warren Miller film…that week was the first time we really talked about skiing…and it got me thinking in new ways In 2008, because of Glen’s influence and his success with the Downhome tour, the FacetoFaceTour was born. Over the years, Glen and I had many discussions about the parallels between the Snow and Water Ski industries. In 2014, it became apparent that what I had been doing my whole career wasn’t actually growing the sport or introducing it to new people. Glen’s influence again materialized in the form of FlowPointTV. And there we were….talking about old times and dreaming about new adventures. Glen mentioned Baja, and it took me back to my childhood… Every winter, for almost a decade in the 70’s and 80’s, my parents would round up a crew and head to Baja. Camping, fishing, skiing,…livin. I was born just before their last trips down…so I barely remember anything. But there was always something magical about the place…a little voice in my head that was always calling me back. So finally, after 30 years, it was time to pack up and road trip back to Baja. Its more than a thousand miles from Chico to the Bay of LA and less than an hour into the trip my nephew Gavin was already struggling. It was foreshadowing….. cuz later that evening….about 3 in the morning, as we were rolling into San Diego….the Van exploded… a Walmart Semi almost took us out. We struggled off the freeway, lifted the hood and knew something wasn’t right. Oil everywhere, and some parts and pieces missing, we thought the trip was done… 1 tow truck ride, a 3 hr sleep, 24hrs kicking around San Diego and $1000 later, we were on the road again…southbound. We had know idea what to expect in Baja. -When we crossed the border and made our way south, we noticed immediately how raw and wild this place was ….it felt a lot like I’d imagine California was back in the 50’s….. Dirt roads, blue water and few rules. Perfect. 10 hours later, when we rolled into the the Bay of LA that evening, we knew we were into something pretty sweet. Glen’s dad, Jim Plake, found this place decades ago, and had a vision….today, Fort Plake sits on the Sea of Cortez, and is no longer just a dream. And for a few days, it was our paradise. We kicked things off with a bit of skiing…. But when Glen Plake is your tour guide, its pretty funny how what you thought you were going to be doing….and what you end up doing….are two completely different things…. Fish Ski Whale Watch Desert Exploring Rain Ham Radioing Swim with the Dolphins Ski Racks IClimbing More Fishing Culinary Arts Kite Flying More Rain More Skiing We’d be here all day if we showed you everything….so instead, here’s a highlight reel…. You’ve just seen part of our Baja Trip, all the way through I don’t know any better way to stop time and feel that spark of invincibility, than living life on the water…its not just about skiing…..but skiing is the magnet that brings us together, and the glue that keeps us together….hopefully forever… I’m lucky to have aparents that taught me that lesson at an early age…. And thanks to them, we re-discovered this magical place….and found the FlowPoint… - Marcus Brown, Cinco De Mayo, 2015

This is the final chapter of the story from 2011 that featured an incredible ski mountaineering journey into the heart of the High Sierra in search of possible first descents. Featuring pro ski legend Glen Plake and IFMGA ski and mountain guide Howie Schwartz of Sierra Mountain Guides. The happy end went sour when the day after this adventure ended a friend was killed in an avalanche on a nearby mountain. Part 1 is meant to be educational on trip planning. Part 2 features a 5000 foot ski descent down Devil's Crags to Devil's Washbowl in epic snow conditions. Part 3 of the series here was premiered in January 2014, presented by Howie at an avalanche awareness gala hosted by Community Skis in Mammoth Lakes, CA and with Mr. Plake in attendance. Part 3 is dedicated to the late Kip Garre and his partner Alison Kreutzen who died in an avalanche on Split Mountain, only 6 horizontal miles from where we finished our tour and 1 day later.

Sure, ISPO MUNICH is the largest and most important trade show for the sports business by far. But ISPO is much more. We have taken a tour through ISPO MUNICH 2014 to find out, what ISPO is all about. Speaking with visitors and athletes as well as with the industry's opinion leaders, we tried to find out about ISPO's relevance and its various communities. Just as one of the guy said: "People, Products, Party."
