1. David Platt on The Gospel Project

from The Gospel Project | LifeWay Added 550 1 0

The Gospel Project is a gospel-centered Bible study material for the local church. The Bible is not a collection of stories. It is one story, the story of God’s plan to rescue His people from sin and death. It is the story of redemption, the gospel message of Jesus Christ. And it’s our story, too. The Gospel Project is a Bible study resource that invites Adults, Students, and Kids of all ages to dive deeply into God’s story of redemption through Jesus Christ. In every lesson, participants are immersed in the gospel and learn how when the gospel works on them, they become a part of the story, too, the very hands and feet in God’s gospel project.

THE BIG IDEA: The gospel forms the church. THE BIBLE READING: 1 Corinthians 15:1-11 (ESV) 15 Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, 2 and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. 3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, 5 and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. 6 Then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep. 7 Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles. 8 Last of all, as to one untimely born, he appeared also to me. 9 For I am the least of the apostles, unworthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10 But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me. 11 Whether then it was I or they, so we preach and so you believed. KEY SCRIPTURE: And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent (Colossians 1:18) THE BLURB: The gospel is not merely one thing among many in the life of a church but rather the means by which the church exists. It is the very thing that forms the church and gives it life. In this sermon we will discover how BPCC – you and I – have been given the mission as God’s people to proclaim and embody the gospel for the glory of God and the good of our community.

GOSPEL-CENTRED SERVICE THE BIG IDEA: The gospel empowers service. THE BIBLE READING: Philippians 2:5-11 (ESV) 5 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, 6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. 9 Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. KEY SCRIPTURE: “If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet.” (John 13:14) THE BLURB: The gospel frustrates our desire to be self-made and self-sufficient. Because the gospel shows us that we need saving, that we needed someone to rescue us. And Christ was that Saviour. He came to serve us. This is the essence of the gospel, not that we serve Christ but that He served us. This means our service begins and ends with Jesus. In this sermon we will hear how BPCC – you and I – have been called to serve one another like Christ has served us, for the glory of God and the good of our community.

              from David Fairchild Added 193 3 0

So what's the big deal with community and mission? Why is community central to God's design for His missional purposes? David Fairchild breaks down what community and mission are and how they interrelate to one another. This discussion works off of the conviction that Gospel-Community-Mission is a three legged stool. Only together can we understand what God intended from the beginning for His redemptive plan.

                from BH Publishing Added

For small group leaders and Sunday school facilitators who prefer truth over technique, Gospel-Centered Teaching is refreshing in its simple purpose to remind you of something you already instinctively know: It's Jesus who changes lives, and the goal of your Bible study is to continually reintroduce people to Him. While discussing in depth common related concerns (missional apathy, biblical illiteracy in the church, shallow discussions, etc.), author and teacher Trevin Wax duly offers a practical guide to making sure your message is always surely centered on Jesus and what He has done: "Fellow teachers, let's soak ourselves in the truths of the gospel and the Word. Then, let's invite others to the fountain of living water offered freely by our Master Teacher whose life and death changes everything."
