Our own Dr. Kenyatta Gilbert, Professor of Homiletics sponsors this annual service wherein Seminarians present the Seven Last Sayings of Jesus from the Cross. This year's speakers were inspiring and dynamic! Additionally, graduating senior Paulette Davidson performed a Divine Mime that brought honor and Glory to God. Welcome to Howard University School of Divinity. Dr. Jeremiah Wright graciously provided our first lecture given in 2013. His topic is a review of "Radical Reconciliation" the book written by Dr. Alan Boesak and Dr. Curtiss DeYoung(HUSD Alum). Dr. Wright delivered a challenging message to the audience that caused each member to reconsider their thoughts about the conditions existing in the relationship between African American and African Christians. We hope you'll join us again for the HUSD Wednesday Opening Convocation on January 23, 2013 where our lecturer will be Dr. Gay Byron, the Associate Dean of Academics here at HUSD.

Howard University School of Divinity Advent Chapel Service at Mays Hall on the East Campus of Howard University in the Howard Thurman Chapel. Rev. Herbert W. Corbin planned and presented this Liturgical Advent Worship Service. The Word Advent comes from the Latin word adventus which means "coming" or "arrival." Preminent in this season is the expectancy of the birth of Christ in his First Advent and the anticipation of Christ's return in His Second Advent; which focuses on the eschatology and Parousia of the Christian church.

Thank you for joining us for the 95th Annual Alumni Convocation here at Howard University School of Divinity. Our theme this year is "Religion and Culture: Connecting the Church and Hip Hop." To inspire discourse on this topic, we invited the esteemed Dr. Michael Eric Dyson, Dr. Joshua Wright and Dr. VaNatta Ford to participate in a panel discussion with HUSD students, faculty, staff and alumni. The panelists entertained questions and presented their positions in this invigorating exchange as we seek to go deeper and deeper in our understanding of the role of the church within the larger community. Our own Dr. Renee Harrison facilitated the panel and Pastor Phil Jackson of Lawndale Community Church (the Hip Hop Church) provided opening remarks
