These are just a few non-scientific camera tests to compare my Sony HVR-Z1U camera to my Canon 7D Mark II in video mode. The Sony is a video camera released in early 2005. It has a fixed variable speed zoom lens, records HDV in either 25 or 29.97 interlaced video (no progressive options, no 24p) and is easy to hold and operate as a video camera. It records 1440x1080 (1.33) 8-bit 4:2:0 IPB MPEG-2 to one hour video tapes. In 2005, this was groundbreaking for a $6K prosumer camera. It has professional XLR audio inputs, controls, and yes… a headphone jack. Easy to attach a shotgun mic to the included shock mount, and the built-in stereo mic is isolated from camera sounds. Autofocus is adequate for a video camera, yet somewhat difficult as the image is usually too soft to judge focus accurately (peaking helps, but not much). The Canon was released in November 2014. It is a great still camera that also happens to record video. It is not comfortable to hold as a video camera without third party gadgets and gizmos. Lenses are interchangeable and you can achieve the depth of field cherished by videographers, yet to be expected from a DSLR. However, feathered variable speed zooms are out of the question. Audio is amateurish with the sad fact that the addition of a headphone jack was a major upgrade from the 7D. Best to record audio seperately if you are a professional. The built-in mic records everything from the constant USM focus changes to you fiddling with the knobs and wheels. Focus is greatly improved with facial recognition and object tracking. External monitoring using uncompressed HDMI is also a worthy feature, allowing external recording of the video. Of course, by this point, you have a camera rig that takes an hour to set up and prepare… with multiple points of failure. The Canon offers frame rates from 23.976p to 59.94p giving you the option to shoot overcranked slow-mo. Video codecs are impressive with MOV and MP4 options and All-I, IPB and IPB Lite as options. Recording HD 1080p at 29.97 using ALL-I consumes 654 MB/minute, or 23 minutes on a 16GB memory card. Recording STOPS just short of 30 minutes for some reason. There are two memory card slots, one CF and one SD. Built-in GPS records location data into the movie files. Overall, the Canon offers much better possibilities for high quality video, but requires much more work to achieve it, whereas the Sony is designed to do one thing, and it does it well… especially considering the age of the technology.

This is the story of Demaje. He is a 10 year-old boy who has been in foster care for several years. With options for placement or adoption running out, his only hope was to reunite with the family he lost. Extreme Recruitment is a program of Midwest Foster Care and Adoption Association. It is an intensive, focused effort to work diligently and quickly to locate relatives of children in foster care who have no options for permanent placement.

Tags are keywords that describe videos. For example, a video of your Hawaiian vacation might be tagged with "Hawaii," "beach," "surfing," and "sunburn."
