The sun was shining in The Golden State for the second British Polo Day LA at Will Rogers Polo Club, Los Angeles. With the beautiful state park as a backdrop to the event, guests enjoyed a Champagne Taittinger reception before the fun of the Brompton Bicycle polo, which entertained the crowds with some dramatic falls and crashes. The Royal Salute Quaich Experience, led by His Grace The Duke of Argyll, was the perfect way to end a delicious lunch and get everyone on their feet before beginning the live auction which raised $57,000 in support of Homeboy Industries and the UK Stem Cell Foundation. Meanwhile in the Harrods garden party guests revelled in quintessentially British games such as croquet and giant jenga. The first polo match saw Harrow take on the home side, Will Rogers, being defeated by one goal in the final minutes of the last chukka and ending the game on a 5-4 win to Will Rogers. The tables soon turned however in the second match with the British Schools storming ahead and finishing 10-5 against the Southern California Team. Prizegiving saw the spectacular British Silverware Land Rover Will Rogers Plate and Hackett Bossom Cup being presented to the winning teams. Max Kirchoff finished off the day in true BPD fashion sabering a bottle of Taittinger Champagne to celebrate amongst the players and guests.

The forward thinking people at Bauer have a great new digital offering ‘Food To Love’ and we where more than happy to help them work up a campaign for it. ‘Food To Love’ builds on the excellent food credentials of The Australian Women’s Weekly and Women’s Day plus the mysterious league of chefs in the Test Kitchen. We developed the copy and direction for this campaign with the great marketing team at Bauer, and then got stuck in with their photographers to create this time lapse TVC to tell a story about creating food with confidence. A great collaboration and lots of fun on the day. The best bit? Getting to eat all that great food cooked up by the amazing people in the test kitchen.

British Polo Day Dubai 2015 opened with a celebration of the long-standing historical and cultural ties that bind Great Britain to Dubai when elite members of the Cavalry & Guards regiments of the British Army coaxed their camels onto the pitch for the Hackett Thesiger Trophy, beautifully modelled on a photo that Sir Wilfred Thesiger took of HH Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan over 60 years ago. The match went the way of the Jaeger-LeCoultre Cavalry team who – over the course of three chukkas - found the flags three times. The Gaucho Guards made a valiant effort to come back in the fourth chukka, but it was too little too late. Equally entertaining for the pitch-side crowds was the Brompton Bicycle Polo Match – a rather amusing and unsteady example of pedal proficiency between Dubai Polo & Equestrian Club and Rest of the World. Rest of World put pedal to the metal and scored four triumphant goals, with no return from their Dubai contemporaries, resulting in a 4 – 0 win. Suitably amused by the spectacle, guests then sat down to a delicious al-fresco lunch – expertly paired with Justerini & Brooks’ fine wines - on the Club’s picturesque terrace. Following lunch, an afternoon of exhilarating and fast-paced polo began with The Falcon Plate – a hotly-contested battle between The Royal Salute Oxbridge and Sofitel Gulf Polo teams. After Pablo MacDonough injured himself the previous day, teams were considerably altered but Stuart Wrigley and Jacqueline Hooper played out of their skins for the Royal Salute Oxbridge team and stemmed the tide of the Sofitel Gulf Polo team. However when families get together – such as the Monteverdes – and when father is a nine-goaler, there’s only going to be one result. Ultimately, the Sofitel Gulf Polo team took the Falcon Plate by 7 goals to 6. Not to be out-shone, the Hackett British Exiles took to the pitch against home side, Habtoor Polo for the final match of the day – the British Polo Day Dubai Cup. Habtoor Polo - who have had a most successful season in the Gulf – proved stiff competition, although the Hackett British Exiles threatened their lead, up until the third chukka with some great play particularly by Jamie Morrison. The game was one of great spirit and good manners but the Habtoor ‘powerhouse’ saw off a brief challenge by the Exiles and a flurry of goals in the fourth chukka and won by 8 goals to 5. A score which belied the pace and play of the game. As the sun set on a day of top polo, guests gathered for the official British Polo Day Dubai prize-giving. Mr Ghazi Al Madani, the Manager of Sports Tourism for the Dubai Sports Council and Her Majesty's Consul General to Dubai, Edward Hobart presented the outstanding British Silverware bespoke-designed Falcon Plate to a proud Sofitel Gulf Polo team. Land Rover’s Lorraine Toolan and British Silverware’s James Houghton then presented the British Polo Day Cup to Habtoor Polo. Royal Salute’s ‘Most Valuable Player’ - Jamie Morrison - was presented with a bottle of Diamond Tribute, while the Holland & Holland ‘Shot of The Day’ was awarded to nine-year-old Lucas Monteverde and ‘Best Playing Pony’ - sponsored and presented by Jaeger-LeCoultre, the Official Timekeeper for British Polo Day - went to Envedia, ridden by Sheikha Maitha. British Polo Day’s Harrods Green Man then presented the Harrods ‘Luck of the Draw’ to Nicholas Grigorieff from Fashion 1 TV, while Prince Alexei Cantacuzene Count Speransky won Hackett’s ‘Best Dressed Male’. Celebrated womenswear designer, Fitriani Hay then set the tone for the evening’s celebration with a spectacular fashion show under the stars in the Club’s beautifully-lit courtyard, before guests headed off to Dubai’s hottest night-spot XL Beach Club. — at Dubai Polo & Equestrian Club.

From camel hump to bicycle pump, the British Exiles and Rest of World teams took to the pitch for an amusing and quintessential British game of Brompton Bicycle Polo. The British Exiles put the pedal to the medal and won 3 – 2. The highlight of the evening’s polo was undoubtedly the British Polo Day Plate, presented by Land Rover. A closely-fought battle between The British Exiles and Ghantoot Polo Team, the Exiles had a strong start with a surprise two goals in the opening minutes of the game, but the Zavaletta brothers soon took Ghantoot into the lead with their carefully-honed tactics. Despite fighting back, the Exiles couldn’t manage to turn the game around and the home team once again triumphed with a 9 - 6½ lead, taking home the splendid bespoke trophy by British Silverware. With the crowds gathered for the official British Polo Day Abu Dhabi prize-giving, HH Sheikha Lubna bint Khalid bin Sultan Al Qasimi, HE Saeed Bin Houfan Al Mansouri and Philip Parham CMG, HM Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates took to the stage to present the evening’s prizes. The Hackett Camel Polo Trophy was jointly-presented to the Cavalry and Guards regiments for their rather diplomatic draw, while triumphant home team, Ghantoot took home the British Polo Day Plate. Royal Salute’s ‘Most Valuable Player’ George Meyrick was presented with a bottle of Diamond Tribute, while the Holland & Holland ‘Shot of The Day’ was awarded to Ghantoot’s Abdullah bin Desmal and ‘Best Playing Pony’ - sponsored and presented by Jaeger-LeCoultre, the Official Timekeeper for British Polo Day - went to Despreciada, ridden by Clemente Zavaleta of Ghantoot Polo Team. British Polo Day’s Harrods Green Man - Robert Taylor - then presented the Harrods ‘Luck of the Draw’ to Mikaela Lovelund from InterContinental Abu Dhabi. On the terrace overlooking Ghantoot’s pitches, guests then sat down to a three-course dinner by Gaucho – expertly paired by fine wines from Royal Warrant holders Justerini & Brooks. Colonel Simon Ledger then raised his gavel to start the evening’s charity auction for the benefit of WAHA and Help for Heroes. With lots including an iconic handmade Brompton bicycle, a stay for two at Marrakech’s Royal Mansour, four nights in the private residence on Velaa Private Island and a week in one of 3rd Home’s luxurious properties, the auction raised an impressive £35,000.

This is leaving the River at Hackett Gulch headed toward the Trail Head. It was a good day. Great weather for February in Colorado. You can hear a couple skid plate bonks but otherwise the FJ did very well. Sadly the GoPro battery died, that's why it ends when it does.
