This is our local meditation hut and was shot during a recent exhibition of the Muse by "Art for All People" at Commonweal.. Here is a poem to get you into the mood. All rights reserved on this video. We start early in the morning to climb the mountains, Fog lifts in ribbons off the autumn trees, Man with his cow and rope on the side of the road Churches have spires, like the fantasies of fairy tales Showers of yellow forests reflect on fallen leaves. Geometric "wooden shingles " of the houses Crisscross in zigzag patterns Sculpted Cyprus trees pierce the deciduous forest. We pass the summit, lots of snow. Woman with her potatoes, People selling mushrooms, waving us down A man bicycles with his cabbages, Handmade birdhouses over the entrances of each house Smells of burning hay. Man with a complexion of cheese And pinkish red coat grins towards me We stop by side of road for sugar pastries rolled on an iron pillar We are 12 miles outside of Brasov Snow capped hills above glistening long valley Woman with her potatoes, cabbages Corn on the side of the road More buggies and carts and people piled up on dried corn Pimento and pickle conserves for sale Cabbages on the rolling wooden carts Rolling in the darkness of night, This morning in the cool of the morning, Visit a dark monastery They are chanting With candles pierced into twisted loaves of breads, Chanting within the frankincense smoke Shadows of golden halos and. Vaulted ceilings. Huge splayed birdsʼ nests on top Of every other telephone pole Clips of the hooves of the horses A young colt trips along the highway Orthodox places of worship everywhere just like pagodas in Burma Rounded humps of hay hanging in the angles of the light, We are on the edge of the Ukraine, On the other side of the river, Monastery nestled in the breast of the mountains green Golden embroideries, a monk inch his black lace, and smooth skin reads his book The Madonna was so beautiful . With her hammered silver vest and halo I know now we are in the tip of our journey having traveled all this way To reach this peaceful place and Find the beauty of our own backyard on a lovely day. …………………….Travels last October travels in northern Moldavia, Romania SHA SHA HIGBY-COSTUMER AND PERFORMER International performance/sculptural artist, Sha Sha Higby is known for her evocative and haunting performances using the exquisite and ephemeral body sculpture she meticulously creates herself and moves. This is a rare opportunity to see the costumes as an exhibit when it is not used for performance. It is a "tool" that has its use and comes alive! See other performances on Vimeo or www.shashahigby.com See more of her work at www.shashahigby.com Higby uses sculpture as a body costume that can be integrated with theater and dance to create its own poetic plot in solo performance. Internationally renowned for her evocative and haunting performances, she is influenced by her studies in Asia, Noh Theater, Butoh and shadow puppets. It takes Higby two years to make and develop a new costume sculpture that slowly "grows into the performance” – at each of which she adds a new prop to play with to transform herself and the audience together into one. Sha Sha Higby received a BS in art from Skidmore College and spent five years in Indonesia under aFulbright Scholarship. She also studied for a year in Japan, and six months in India under an Indo-American Fellowship. She has received numerous awards and grants, including a NEA Fellowship in solo theater and grants from the Zellerbach Family Fund and from The Japan Foundation for collaborative artistic work. She has performed internationally at the Festival Internazional delle Marionnnette; Divaldo Korzo in Slovakia; the Festival of Sydney in Australia; Singapore Festival of the Arts; Hong Kong Fringe Festival; Tokyo National College Of Art; the Tokyo Textile Institute: Puppet Theater Festival; and the Stara Zagora in Bulgaria. In addition; she has exhibited her work at the Portland Art Museum; Arizona State University; San Francisco Folk and Craft Art Museum in San Francisco; Honolulu Academy of Arts; University of Massachusetts at Amherst; Columbia College Inter-Arts Program in New York; San Francisco Asian Art Museum; The Glass Museum in Tacoma, Washington; and Baltimore College of Art.
