On the Feast of the Holy and Righteous Lazarus, seminarian Deacon Seraphim (William) Joa was ordained to the Holy Priesthood by His Grace The Right Rev. Michael, bishop of the Diocese of New York and New Jersey, Orthodox Church in America. Here, Dn. Seraphim encircles the altar. Father Seraphim is in his third year of the Master of Divinity program here at St. Vladimir’s. He and his wife, Matushka Julie, came to the seminary in 2009, from Long Island, New York, where their home parish of Holy Trinity Orthodox Church is located, in the town of East Meadow. This was a worship experience unlike any other we have ever done here at Covenant. Having just completed the "Holy Priesthood" series that walked us through the different elements of the Mosaic Old Testament tabernacle, what an incredible time to walk through that pattern again during this service. There has been amazing feedback from our online viewers that even watching the digital version was incredibly powerful, so we hope your experience will be likewise. We encourage you to get somewhere you can focus and be as free from distractions as possible. Enjoy!

What would happen if a guy proposed to a girl with a plastic ring the he got from a 50-cent gum-ball machine? How do think that would go over with her? Or what if you tried to love your kids or your spouse without ever telling them or showing them how you felt? What if you just loved them "in your heart" only? For many churchgoers, "praise" commonly refers to the faster songs, while "worship" commonly refers to the slower songs. However, that understanding has nothing to do with the incredible significance of these two words and our relationship with our Heavenly Father!

“Make a lampstand of pure, hammered gold. Make the entire lampstand and its decorations of one piece—the base, center stem, lamp cups, buds, and petals. Then make the seven lamps for the lampstand, and set them so they reflect their light forward. The lamp snuffers and trays must also be made of pure gold. You will need seventy-five pounds of pure gold for the lampstand and its accessories." Exodus 25:31, 37-39 (NLT)

“Make a table of acacia wood—two cubits long, a cubit wide and a cubit and a half high. Overlay it with pure gold and make a gold molding around it. Also make around it a rim a handbreadth wide and put a gold molding on the rim. Make four gold rings for the table and fasten them to the four corners, where the four legs are. The rings are to be close to the rim to hold the poles used in carrying the table. Make the poles of acacia wood, overlay them with gold and carry the table with them. And make its plates and dishes of pure gold, as well as its pitchers and bowls for the pouring out of offerings. Put the bread of the Presence on this table to be before me at all times."
