Professor Drew Ferrier is studying the effects of the Chesapeake Bays salinity on the rusty crayfish, particularly the genetic makeup of the population and their ability to tolerate the salinity and invade neighboring habitats. Students have ample opportunities to assist Professor Ferrier, either through honors projects or as part of the Summer Science Research Institute, an eight-week summer program where students work one-on-one with faculty advisers and participate in real-world research in the field and in the lab. Students gain valuable experience that can help pave the way to graduate school or the job market, or help define a career path.
