WorldRace Month 5: Kampong Thom - Cambodia - EMOD Hope For Children, Children's home. Cambodia - you brought me more love and hope and joy than I ever thought was possible but most of all you taught me Shalom. "It is the physical, sense-oriented, relational, communal, personal, ideological posture that arches God-ward. That's the best way I can describe it. It's equilibrium and free-fall, balance and shake. It's a new dance, a new taste, the feeling of falling in love, the knowledge of being set free. It's that split-second cross between fact and a feeling, something you would swear on in a court of law but couldn't find words for it if you tried." - Shauna Niequist, Author of Cold Tangerines I have no other words that could describe Cambodia, and so I hope this video gives you a small glimpse at how God moved in our hearts month 5 of the race.

I know we are in a time of finacial hardship in the UK. So why should we be sending money abroad?? Uganda. Some 50% of the population is aged 14 or below. Approximately 5.4% of adults are living with HIV/AIDs. One of the poorest countries in the world, over 1/3 of its population is living below the international poverty line. Corruption is a huge problem in Uganda, on an international scale from 0-10, 10 being the best a country can be Uganda is a 2.4. It is estimated there are 5,000 street children in Kampala, although there is little accurate data. That itself has to be enough reason. We are a group of students looking to make a small change before we graduate. As well as doing the climb itself, we'll be taking some time beforehand to get involved with the chairty work before hand. We could all turn a blind eye, and focus on the problems that lie close to hand, but if we all do that, then who will care for the millions of AIDS orphans? I know myself how easy it is to walk past a homelss person in this country and feel so ashamed, and sad, its easier to look the other way, cross the street. But what if there were more homless than homed? And what if they were kids? I can't image it. So what is our, what is your money going to do? Most of our work takes place within a slum named Namuwongo, which can be found on the outskirts of Kampala. It has a population of approximately 30,000 people, most of whom have fled conflict situations in the North of the country as well as neighbouring countries Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. There are many problems that affect the people of Namuwongo, these include unemployment, drug abuse, sexual exploitation, HIV and a general lack of education opportunities. Income levels are very low, most households earning less than 20p per day. This, along with other factors, results in high levels of child mortality and chronic malnutrition. We also offer front line services for the hardest to reach street children as well as public health projects across the city. These sit along side our integrated WASH programmes and “public private” partnership work with the local government. 20p a day??? We all come from different paths, we're all doing this for different reasons, some of us need to get fit, some of us have health issues to overcome, some of us just want to have an adventure. But then main reason for climbing the world's highest free standing mountain? To make a change. Please Help Us Help Them. Thank You
