      • “Street Brewed: An Exhibition of Contemporary Street Art,”

        from ™Grosleefotograffii Added

Opening Reception on Fri 4/29 @ 7-11 PM at Angel City Brewing Nearly 25 internationally known artists – many included in MOCA’s current “Art in the Streets” show – are premiering original works produced on 10x12 wood panels in “Street Brewed: An Exhibition of Contemporary Street Art,” the inaugural presentation of Angel City Brewing’s new Downtown Los Angeles art space. New York-based Ron English created “X-Ray Guernica” and Shepard Fairey installed a mural from his current series depicting sly visual commentary on the apotheosis of Ronald Reagan in American political mythmaking. Expected to rotate during the exhibition’s run, the current artist roster for “Street Brewed” includes ABCNT, Lady Aiko, Augor MSK, becca, Cern, Cryptik, Dabs Myla, D*Face, Easo, Ron English, Eye One, Shepard Fairey, James Haunt, Logan Hicks, How & Nosm, JR, Kid Zoom, Phil Lumbang, Mear One, Ernesto Yerena Montejano, Nomadé, Saber, Swoon, and Tanner. “Street Brewed” is on view free of charge at Angel City Brewing from April 29 to July 10 during the brewery’s operating hours of Thursday and Friday, 5 p.m. to closing; and Saturday and Sunday, 2 p.m. to closing. Pints of locally handcrafted beer by Angel City Brewing are only $5 during the exhibition’s run. The opening reception also includes live painting by becca, DJ music, and food trucks. The exhibition was produced by Angel City Brewing with support by the Los Angeles Downtown Arts District Space (LADADspace) and with coordination by Lahoda Fine Arts in partnership with a legendary, but anonymous member of the street art scene. • Maitreya the Future Buddha tantrik shrine at Samsøn Prøjects 11.11.11

          from Seth West Added 245 1 0

Maitreya the Future Buddha Tantrik shrine ::: ::: Maxi-media: wood, glass, water, rooster/bluejay feathers, abundance of paint, linseed oil, bone, bees wax, quartz crystal, gold, Dwhite yarn, chestnut, nip cap, artic spar, sun god beads, rose oil, tigers eye, acacia, sage, diamond pinky ring, coal, mylar, juniper sprig, yoni fetish, cedar, dart, marble, Bismuth crystal, lemon kush puja, cloth, pills, rocks, Arduino, LED's, mirrors, love + time. Dimensions variable. 2003-2011 Seth West 2012 Venerated in a simple cloth shrine, ecstatic with light, poised magestically above a scrying pool, Maitreya the future Buddha tantrik totem is a devotional icon/sculpture/painting (as much in the spirit of sacred buddhist art as Red Grooms, Do Ho Suh and William Morris). Traditionally, Maitreya Buddha (loving kindness) is portrayed as an elegant transcendent male seated gracefully high in Tusita heaven, which one can ascend to through deep meditation and viszualization on the image of the future Buddha in Tusita, which is the fourth heaven in the realm of desire. I have always visualized Maitreya, as a woman. It just feels right that the future Buddha is a woman. Returning (Now) as a compassionate teacher ushering in an enlightened golden age of Buddha-Dharma. At a recent Munay-ki ceremony, at White Owl Temple Farm, the beeutiful and wise godess Uniami aka MiSelf, suggested that, perhaps, my vision stems from the fact that Maitreya is, indeed, Mother Earth, herself. Accompanying the lovely mini-shrine will be a small ceremonial puja pulpit. Puja is the ritual act of making an offering, setting an intention and receiving a blessing. This devotion activates the divine presence of the venerated deity within a sacred space. Many Buddhists and Hindus believe that the more perfect the representation of the god, the more pure the worship. Art is a stepping stone to the cosmos within us. Blessed bee. Maximalist Seth West and Süb-Samsøn holy cave present 'Maitreya the future Buddha and a gaggle of mirrored demon eyes + New Films', a showing of new work on the theme of Vice and Virtue from November 4 - 21, 2011

Filmed on an iPhone with some super hip app. Shot and edited by Will Hayward on his trip from a depressing apartment to a house full of friends. The best memories weren't caught on camera, but this still makes me smile. Hope you enjoy. HUG LIFE! "1000 Little Pieces" by Timber! http://timber1.bandcamp.com
