Building corporate credibility on the environment: A new direction for achieving an age-old goal There have been days—bad days—in the PR industry when we have told our clients what they wanted to hear, and told the public what we hoped they would believe. Because of those efforts, polls show that we and the industries we represent have lost the public trust and endangered our profession. There is a better way. Focusing on the PR role in communicating about climate change, James Hoggan will review the worst and point to the best: a new direction in environmental public relations. James Hoggan is president of the Vancouver-based public relations firm Hoggan & Associates, chair of the David Suzuki Foundation, chair of the Canadian chapter of Al Gore’s organization, The Climate Project, and a trustee of the Dalai Lama Centre for Peace and Education. He is co-founder of the public relations web sites DeSmogBlog.com and Stonehousesummit.com, and author of two books: Do the Right Thing: PR Tips for a Skeptical Public and Climate Cover-up: The Crusade to Deny Global Warming.
