            • Loyal Watcher (the algae bloom trip)

              from stray seal Added

Aboard the Loyal Watcher dive boat. Some underwater clips from three dives on a week-long trip to Malin Head in Ireland to dive shipwrecks in the 30-45m range. Unfortunately the coasts of Ireland was suffering from a Karenian 'Red Tide', which is an unusual algae bloom that affects the visibility in the water even down to 45m. The more classic wrecks such as the Laurentic (yes the shipwreck with the real treasure in the form of gold bars!), the William Minnel and the U-861 were unfilmable/undiveable, so we made do with the Loch Garry, Ahdeek and the Glen Sheil in the Irish Channel which with visibility from 5-2 metres, which got increasingly less (2m) as we neared the Clyde area. We still however managed to have a good time, and with a wide-angle lens and small camera lights, managed to get at least some atmospheric footage of some of the recogniseable parts of the ships!
