VISIT THE PROJECT BLOG: researchremix.tumblr.com 'This Spring the Digital Media Center (DMC) at Johns Hopkins University is hosting Research Remix, an ongoing program that brings together visual art and academic research. JHU students and faculty in the sciences are submitting their research posters and data for local artists to translate into visual art. This interdisciplinary project explores the ability of visual art to engage audiences and find new meanings in scientific and other data. Participating artists will choose a research poster from JHU students and faculty to reinterpret as visual art. These artists include JHU students, staff, and faculty, along with illustration students from MICA and professional artists from the Baltimore area. In February, the DMC hosted a public reception at the JHU Homewood campus where participating artists and researchers exchanged information. Professional illustrator and Assistant Professor in the Department of Art as Applied to Medicine at Johns Hopkins Jennifer Fairman presented on the overlaps of visual art, illustration, and functional medicine. Afterwards, participating artists each chose which research project to remix. The collaborations will culminate in an exhibition at the end of the Spring semester with a reception on May 8th. Works in progress, related stories, and curated selections of participating research will be posted online along with the finished artworks at: researchremix.tumblr.com
