Live visual performance at Het Concertgebouw, Amsterdam 2013 In cooperation with KBK Visuals we were given the opportunity to use this famous organ as a canvas for a live visual performance. The organ was built in 1890 by Utrecht based organ builder Michael Maarschalkerweerd and Dolf van Gendt. In 1990 the organ was disassembled and fully restored and resurrected again by 1993, only to come to life this year like never before. Although the organ itself was silent during the performance, we can clearly see the possibility of an audiovisual organ performance. Registration of my graduation project for my Bachelor of Art and Technology at the Utrecht School of the Arts (HKU). Iconic Echoes is an audiovisual installation that consists of a set of analog photos, illuminated to sound using a projector. The title is derived from the description of our sensory memory; iconic (visual) and echoic (auditive) and stands for an experience that addresses one’s memory and encourages the retrieval of (early) memories at the same time. It visualises an impression of how sound and image can trigger a wave of associations. The in-distinctiveness and ambiguity of the photos stimulate the visitor’s memory to identify recognizable elements drawn from their own memories. First we mapped the projections to the canvas, then during the night of Plotfarm 21/01/2010 we changed the canvas to the projections. This work is an investigation of a more organic form of VJing and stage design. When there was a change of musical performer, there was a change of screen composition too.
