NOVEMBER 26, 2011 - duration: 05:44 copyright © tandem production 2011 Interview with Anne Mailliet, Berlin correspondent for France 24, on the occasion of the exhibition FERTILITY held at Side by Side Gallery Akim Monet GmbH during the Fall of 2011. Side by Side Gallery Akim Monet GmbH opened its doors in the Fall of 2011 on Berlin’s famed Postdamer Strasse. Focusing on thematically curated exhibitions that juxtapose modern and contemporary art, the gallery is located within the former Tagesspiegel complex. When curating his exhibitions, Akim Monet relies on his deep knowledge and subtle understanding of the history of 19th & 20th century art in order to explore and re-contextualize historically prevalent themes through modern and contemporary works of art. By exposing thematic correlations, Side by Side Gallery Akim Monet moves beyond a singular chronological presentation in order to reveal converging and lasting influences. Akim Monet draws upon his extensive international network within the art world to show carefully selected works from distinguished private collections, artist’s estates and renowned galleries, as well as pieces coming directly from noteworthy contemporary artists worldwide. When appropriate, and with the collaboration of experts, he adds very pointedly chosen antiquities. Side by Side Gallery Akim Monet acknowledges the site’s historic 19th century architecture and remains true to the Tagesspiegel’s motto ‘Rerum cognoscere causas’ (To know the cause of things). The gallery holds three to five annual-seasonal exhibitions. Side by Side Gallery Akim Monet GmbH Potsdamer Strasse 81b - DE 10785 Berlin www.sidebysidegallery.com

May 27, 2009 after having the cops called on him the day before, Wayne Coe successfully executed his SPARTAN THEATER homage sand painting under the marquee of the local theater. It was a sunny, blustery day. The surface was marble, slick and unusual for his work but made for accuracy and speed.

James Kalm drifts through Downtown Manhattan and records a couple of exhibitions of interest. Jonathan Borofsky has been a presence on the international art scene since the late sixties. His installations and counting practice were unique, but with “Five Large Paintings” he’s given up counting and taken up the paint brush. Across town we drop in for the opening of Carrie Moyer. This recent selection of paintings displays Moyer’s sense of elegance and a knowing employment of painterly devices recalling biomorphic Surrealism, with a Post Modern distance. A cameo appearance by sand painter Wayne Coe begins the tour, and interviews of Borofsky and Moyer are featured.
