This Sunday we are continuing “on the road” with Jesus learning what it means to be His follower when we want to do what’s right. Dr. Luke describes what have become two famous incidents …Jesus encounter with a Lawyer and His telling of the Parable of the Good Samaritan, and Jesus dinner part with Mary & Martha …in both incidents there was a struggle to understand what the right action is. Join us this Sunday @ 9 or 11 am as we worship together and invite God to instruct us from His word. Additional postings in this series are linked via okalliance.ca …check under the Resource tab.

        • Should Christians Judge People?

Often critics of Christianity cite Matthew 7:1 to Christians so they don't judge at all. However, Phil Fernandes shows how often people take that verse out of context and without looking at the other verses that follow it: “Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and twith the measure you use it will be measured to you. Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but udo not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye." - Jesus from Matthew 7:1-5

Study 9 of 13 on The Book of James “A lot of people are going to lose their Christian pastime with this study aren’t they? We pick up stones to throw without ever reading the writing in the sand, without understanding the anguish, without knowing God. Who am I to judge the you I never got to know?”—Falvo Fowler Scriptural Basis: Eccl. 2:15–19; Luke 12:13–21; Acts 17:11; Titus 2:14; Heb. 4:15, 16; James 4:11–17. Key Text: “There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?” (James 4:12). 1. To what degree is the judging of another a problem among Christian believers? 2. James 4:11 says: “When you judge the law, you are not keeping it, but sitting in judgment on it.” How does judging others amount to sitting in judgment of the law? 3. How can we learn to know if we have crossed the line from being spiritually discerning to being judgmental on God’s law? 4. What is the relationship—if any—between gossip and judging others? 5. How does presumption relate to this week’s study of judging others? 6. How do we balance prudent planning for the future with our need to live each day in expectation of Christ’s imminent coming?

I want to develop a wonder about people; to look at someone and not give up on their potential by categorizing them. The opposite of wonder is indifference. When we place people in a box, we place God in a box and the boxes we place people in limit our ability to see what God is doing. If they limit our sight they certainly limit our participation with God in his kingdom. Matthew 7:1-12
