These videos represent a small sampling of the stories and recollections told by members of Kalamazoo’s Congregation of Moses in the spring and summer of 2012. Watch and listen to Gloria Besbris, Miriam Brot, Marcia Kalb, and Fran Raffel as they share their memories of growing up Jewish in Kalamazoo. Rabbi Harvey Spivak speaks of some of the roots of Jewish history, culture, and traditions. Uneasy Years: Michigan Jewry During Depression and War explores the dilemmas and successes of Michigan Jews during the decades of the 1930s and 1940s. The exhibit’s photographs explore how Jews, many of whom were recent immigrants or refugees, adjusted to American life, made it through the Great Depression, and participated in the American war effort. http://kvm.kvcc.edu/exhibits/special_exhibits/uneasy_years/uneasy_years.html
