Directed and Edited by Jonathan Krauth Creative Producer: Matthew Nagler Art Director: Michelle Allan GreenCouchSessions.ca For Vancouver independent artist ADALINE it’s all about feeling the music, the pulse, the emotion. “Whether it’s through performance or through a recording my main objective is to communicate emotion. Music has the ability to dramatically transform and I’ve been entrusted with that power. It’s an excitingly scary thing” she says. As the daughter of a minister, music was a central part of everyday life for ADALINE who doesn’t really have a hometown having been moved from city to city in Canada every 4 years since she was born. On a steady diet of gospel, classical and musical theatre she didn’t grow up listening to pop music or the timeless singer/songwriters. In fact it wasn’t until she was 19 that she was introduced to the music that changed her life and would shape her musical taste. She recounts, “I’ll never forget the day I heard music like Sigur Ros and Radiohead. I felt like a jungle child seeing a car for the first time. It was that childlike feeling of wonder – I had never heard or felt anything like it. I was hooked”.

DIrected and Edited by Jonathan Krauth Creative Producer: Matthew Nagler Art Director: Michelle Allan GreenCouchSessions.ca Don’t be fooled by the eponymous nature of the name. Ash Koley is a band comprised of two people: Ash Koley and Phil Deschambault. Phil concedes his name isn’t as catchy, and Ash is narcissistic enough to agree to have the band named after herself. Their sound is an amalgamation of diverse influences, their songs sketch together diverse melodies and lyrics, drawing on cross-generational influences from Abba to the Eurythmics, and from Peter Gabriel to Radiohead.

Directed and Edited by Jonathan Krauth Art Director/Producer: Michelle Allan Art Assistant: Heather Adams Audio Recording/Editing: Yonny Vizcaya GreenCouchSessions.ca Matthew Mazankowski, Grant Cassell and Matthew Tomkinson came together as an after-school pop-punk experiment, unsure and full of awkwardness. Jump to now, with more than a half-decade’s worth of musical exploration under their belts, and Behind Sapphire is an unlikely artistic outpouring of folk-pop with a fantastically woven live show that spills over with quirky energy and intense celebration. Think: “Patrick Watson backed by Hey Ocean!” fused with the grandeur of Sufjan Stevens and Sigur Ros.

Directed and Edited by Jonathan Krauth Creative Producer: Matthew Nagler Art Director: Michelle Allan www.GreenCouchSessions.ca Best known as part of the Vancouver Indie Pop group, Hey Ocean! Vertesi just can’t seem to sit still. Touring coast to coast countless times he also plays with artists such as Ontario rapper Shad K, Topless Gay Love Tekno Party, and recent EXCLAIM! covergirl Hannah Georgas. Recently his attention has turned to his own music and he has spent his spare time in the last 6 months finishing a full length solo record with the help of Toronto musician/producer Jose Miguel Contreras (By Divine Right, Lily Frost, Hey Ocean!), as well as friends Aidan Knight and Tom Dobrzanksi (The Zolas) Based on real people and events in his life, his songs are as distinct and personal as the stories he tells. His lyrics give simple yet careful depictions of enduring love and relentless doubt, while his low and consoling vocals reassure us that one inevitably leads to the other. Like a diary it’s not meant to be profound, just honest.

Directed and Edited by Jonathan Krauth Creative Producer: Matthew Nagler Art Director: Michelle Allan DOP: Heather Adams www.GreenCouchSessions.ca The Pacific Northwest – forests ever green, intertwined with life and moisture, tracked by back roads, the lost and lonely, the seeking and the sought, and solitude; here arose Henry Alcock-White. At first, the boy, time spent exploratory – knee deep in the marsh, soul bent on catching tadpoles or trout; and time spent farm-wise – herding renegade sheep, and sending thoughts across the wilderness of home in British Columbia. Close ever to the sea and the swamps, shushing cattails and bugling bull frogs, the roar of floatplanes, and the damp, salty moan of the country – this place is the pulse, the rhythm of Henry’s music and the course of his blood. Then later, the man, time spent exploratory on another other rocky island, Aran Ireland – remote west coast, time of difference, time of delving – to hone that pulse and craft the sound, to listen to the wind, walk cliffs and again, soul bent on the catch (Mackerel this time), to search for the musical fissure in which to securely place his art. He found it, the fissure, in between two rocky islands – and went home to Vancouver. Back in the city, Henry formed Henry and the Nightcrawlers, and joined the prog-pop-indie-rock band Bend Sinister. Fissure opened – over the course of two years the debut album of Henry and the Nightcrawlers was written and recorded: 100 Blows comes out in the spring of 2010.

Directed and Edited by Jonathan Krauth Creative Producer: Matthew Nagler Art Director: Michelle Allan www.GreenCouchSessions.ca Paper Lions is a Canadian pop rock band hailing from the unlikely small community of Belfast, Prince Edward Island. Brothers John and Rob MacPhee and neighbour Colin Buchanan began playing music together at a very young age in a variety of garage bands, but the line up was never solidified until they met David MacDonald in high school. MacDonald behind the kit, Buchanan playing guitar and Rob and John filling the positions of bass and lead vocals respectively. During the winter of ’08/’09 the band hibernated in their practice space on Prince Edward Island. During this highly creative period the Lions wrote dozens of songs in myriad styles. Sifting through extensive basement recordings and demos, they began to find their new sound in short explosive pop arrangements. By the summer of 2009 Paper Lions was ready to hit the studio, recording their new EP Trophies with up and coming Producer/Engineer Dan Weston (Attack in Black/Classified). Slated for release in early 2010, these six songs are rumoured to clock in at a whopping 17 min long. Possessing the unbridled energy of their live show and their deep understanding of melody and pop arrangements, Trophies, like its creators, is now prepared to take on the world.

Directed and Edited by Jonathan Krauth Producer: Matthew Nagler Art Director: Michelle Allan GreenCouchSessions.ca Georgia’s first big opportunity came when she got a chance to perform for one of Hollywood’s most prolific TV writers/producers; David E. Kelley (The Practice, Ally McBeal, L.A. Law). David was so impressed that he wrote Georgia into the script of his ABC hit show Boston Legal, as a lounge singer, where she performed 2 songs in front of legendary actress Candice Bergen. Soon after her debut TV appearance Georgia found herself in New York’s Madison Square Gardens, singing the National anthems for both the Knicks and Rangers, which lead to an invite to do the same for the Vancouver Canucks and the Nashville Predators. Georgia Murray has had the honour of being asked to sing privately for Warren Buffet, Michelle Pfeiffer, William Shatner, Bill Wrigely, James Spader, and Jimmy Pattison, while at the same time maintaining her urban edge opening for such great acts as, Talib Kweli, Jurassic 5, Atmosphere, KOS, Shad and the Canadian Tenors. More recently, Georgia had her original song, “We’ll Never Know” stolen by a Korean pop star by the name of Hyori Lee. Hyori released the song (under the title of “Swing”) as the first single off her come back album H.Logic and it went #1 in several Asian markets.
