If you've got four minutes, I'd love to give you a timelapse tour of all of the most visually stunning places California has to offer, filmed over four years, from coastline to mountains to deserts, from cities to agriculture to national parks. It's almost double the size of the United Kingdom and slightly larger than Japan. If it was it's own independent country (as it was briefly for a few weeks in 1846), it would have the 8th largest economy in the world by GDP. It contains the highest summit and the lowest desert in the Contiguous United States (and the second-lowest point in the world), both of which are in the same county. It's most known for movies, technology, wine, and national parks, but also grows more than a third of the vegetables consumed in the US, two-thirds of the fruits and nuts, and an unknown but presumably huge percentage of marijuana. It contains every major climatological biome except tundra. More important than those facts, to me, is that I was born and spent most of my life here. The average clip took 1-3 hours to film and another 3-10 hours to edit. Several cuts are from clips more than 24 hours long. I shot 423 clips over four years to make this, but the majority of the 67 clips ultimately used were shot in the last 12 months. The music is "Intense Rocks" by Sebastian Watzinger, licensed from Audiosocket. Created by: Marc Donahue & Sean Michael Williams For Booking and Press Inquiries contact info@permagrinfilms.com Dream Music: Part II is a musical voyage into the depths of the subconscious. This lyrical narrative reflects on the perception of time within dreams and waking life. Filmed on location in 2 states over the course of 6 months, we explored our new production technique of what we call 'lyric-lapsing', to achieve the surrealistic feeling of movement. We built upon the foundation of Part 1 with ambitious ideas that usually took around 6-8 hours of work for 3-4 seconds of footage. Our goal was to pioneer a new film genre by telling a story through art and music. Part 2 was made to transport the viewer from their own reality into a world of dreams and at the end, they awake to wonder how we were able to take them there. Each scene was born from the symbolic meaning of the lyrics and overall message of the film; Time is the illusion within the dream of life. This is a short story of the lonely robot celebrating holidays. Primavera - Spring (season) in Italian Set of "Making Of" photos can be found here with the comments: http://www.flickr.com/photos/vmetron/sets/72157624089679968/ I took days off from Christmas to New Year and planned to make a short film in Yosemite, but then I saw this little robot and thought it would be more interesting to use him in the story. Besides there are many robots on this planet who always spend holidays alone. Then I watched the original movie once again with all the comments from its director Andrew Stanton (for inspiration). I listed a few scenes, which I wanted to shoot, scribbled some storyboards ( they are really like scribbles from 3 year old kid, but turned out to be very useful) and started off. I started filming it right on the day after Christmas by driving to Yosemite, and then spent many more snowy weekends in Tahoe and Yosemite making all these shots one by one. Some of the shots involved hiking, skiing and even snowshoeing. Not that they were required, but just because I like all of that. I even flew this little robot to Alaska, not sure if he enjoyed it though: One morning we stopped to make one shot on the way to Exit Glacier. It was 7'F outside, that's super cold, so his battery was dying every minute and I had to carry him to the car to heat him up after each take. At that moment I thought that it would be much more interesting to shoot video of me struggling with not-so-cooperative robot, freezing temperatures and all the things which I have not done before but eager to learn. Thanks to Gogaren, Uma, Zoran and Zorana for ideas, feedback and for dropping the robot from the cliff ( with parachute ), to Adam for the snow.

On my 3rd time-lapse video of the Eastern Sierra, I focused on night time shooting. During the last week of June, the Milky Way started to make daily appearances on the northern hemisphere, right after sunset and without any interference from the moon. During eight consecutive and exhausting nights in near total darkness, I saw and/or felt deers, rabbits and coyotes passing near-by and once, after shinning a small flash light from my iPhone at two red dots, I saw a big bear just a few feet away, which prompted me to run to my car, leaving all my equipment and gear behind. I did not return until sunrise to pick everything up. Truly scary stuff!!

You think you’re cooler than me? Well you probably are…but you’re definitely not cooler than Mike Wilson. He raised the bar with his unprecedented ropeswing triple backflip into the Truckee River. In case you missed it, the release point on this particular rope swing was 60 feet high, and Mike was over land for a majority of the jump…until he somehow torpedoed into the narrow “window of opportunity” section of the river. Wilson stomped, stomped, and stomped some more…to which you would think he would go home and rest. Not the case. Wilson’s a Beast! Instead of patting himself on the back while claiming illest rope swing/extremist in the western hemisphere, Mike Wilson lost sleep, weight and sanity thinking about how he was going to one-up himself. The creative wheels started turning and the hit was on…Wilson concocted a quadruple back flip off a 99 foot rope swing into the royal blue depths of Lake Tahoe. With the unique combination of childlike eagerness and calculated focus, Mike crafted a pulley system conducive to rocking a quadruple back flip. A four-day shoot session started with a California sunrise and Subway sandwiches…hand-delivered by Wilson’s Mom! The events that took place between Sunrise, Day 1 and Sunset, Day 4 were out of control. The Shreddy Times Crew scoured the lake/cliffs to get, the, shots. Large crowds gathered on the cliffs, boats and waterbound onlookers pulled up to enjoy the “Great Show”, a term coined by Wilson’s fan and father. Mike Wilson trajected himself into the record books with a MASSIVE 99 Foot rope swing quadruple back flip. Summer 2010, Lake Tahoe. Enough Said. - Rogers Out. from Tyler Carl Added 19K 421 51

As an avid timelapser, I have always been conflicted by the sort of timelapses I should be shooting. Day-time timelapses can be difficult to make interesting, night-time timelapses repetitive, sunsets require some amazing light, but day-to-nights being the "Holy Grail" of timelapses, so to speak? There is something intriguing about the concept of shooting non-stop for a timelapse, while maintaining an acceptable exposure and limiting the flicker, often seen in timelapses. Over the course of a few months, I developed my own method to shoot them. Not all of the timelapses in the film used my method, but many of the clips did. This video logs my journey of exploring California searching for the light over the last four months. In my travels, I have been to many places including; Sacramento, Lake Tahoe, San Francisco, Yosemite, Death Valley, Big Sur, Birds Landing, Alta, Desolation Wilderness, and Kyburz, California. All of these places have at least one timelapse that has made the final cut into this film. Many people don’t understand the amount of time and effort involved in shooting and processing a timelapse, and day-to-night timelapses can be even worse. I routinely find myself spending 10 hours of work for just 10 to 15 seconds of footage. In addition, most of these locations required some effort to reach. Whether hiking miles across the salt flats at Badwater Basin, climbing up a mountain to find the perfect tree and composition, or crawling down the side of a hill to get away from people in San Francisco, these clips involved research to find and effort to reach. For those interested, the equipment I use includes: Nikon D600 Canon 5D Mark 3 Tokina 16-28MM F2.8 Canon 16-35MM F2.8 Nikon 70-200MM F2.8 VR 2 Dynamic perception Stage Zero for all motion excluding the intro scene One broken Promaster XC522 Programs I use to process the photos and film include: LRTimelapse 3 Adobe Lightroom 5.0 Adobe After Effects CC Adobe Premier Pro CC Music: James Everingham "Approaching the light" http://www.jameseveringham.com/ This film is 4K ready. If interested in licensing or viewing in 4K contact me at: tylerj57@hotmail.com On Tuesday, January 21, 2014, I will be leaving the world of timelapse for boot camp to become a United States Airman. I will be unavailable for contact until late March. Upon completing boot camp, I will be in the "In-Air-Flight-Refueling" career and I will be in charge of refueling aircraft that need fuel while flying at 20,000 feet at a few hundred miles an hour. I hope to continue shooting timelapse, and am excited for the opportunities ahead of me.
