Mt. Tapotchau is the highest point on Saipan in the Northern Mariana Islands. At 1554 ft. (474 meters) from sea level, it offers a fantastic panorama of Saipan, the surrounding ocean, and neighboring islands. The road up to Mt. Tapotchau is rough and steep at certain points, but the reward that awaits you, especially during the golden hours of sunset and sunrise, is worth it. Here's my latest experience up on Mt. Tapotchau at sunset and dusk. It was spectacular. For photos and a blog post, visit: http://www.iluvsaipan.com/2010/11/atop-mt-tapotchau.html

It was near the end of my dive at Lao Lao Bay when I saw this spotted eagle ray hunting. I have never been able to get this close, for this length of time to an eagle ray. I accumulated over 9 minutes of video with this individual. She definitely was not bothered by my presence. It was a very special experience. It reinforces just how special Lao Lao Bay is, and how lucky we are to be able to dive there.

After diving for almost an hour, it was time to exit. But I decided to take a little detour. This little turtle is what delayed my departure from the water. I am very glad that it did. I never get tired of swimming with turtles. They always intrigue me.

Well, there's no Tiger Shark in here. But there are a couple of cool critters to share. I have never seen a Snake Eel in Saipan before. So that was a new one. The Napolean & the Bluefin Trevally sure are cozy. It's like when we walk our dog Hanzo. He keeps nuzzling up against your leg. The turtle in the 1st clip was hiding from the Tiger Shark we saw last week. That clip was taken maybe 5 minutes after we saw the shark crash into something on the reef, maybe 20'-30' away from where that turtle was hiding.
