(I acknowledge that I do not own the right to any of the footage shown in this video. This video was made for a class project and not for any form of distribution or income). My video focus is on movie theaters, more specifically, the Megaplex Theaters and how they are significant to me. Whenever I’m at the Megaplex Theaters, I feel a peace and comfort. It’s a place where I can take in my passion of filmmaking on a more grand level, be able to share that passion with others as well allow my imagination to break free and experience something special. A lot of people take going to the theater for granted; it’s just a bunch of moving pictures and not works of art, especially special effect driven films. Through my video, I hope to share what going to the Megaplex Theaters means to me and how they’re more than just a place that projects images on thin screens with loud speakers. I setup my video to follow the usual movie going experience: entering the theater, moving through the lobby to the box office, entering a theater and then what the audience experiences during the movie on the screen. At the beginning, I show the various Megaplex Theaters exteriors in a mysterious like manner. From the outside, they just looks like a building with weird signs, but as the “motion posters” that appear on the walls and windows, we start to realize there is something more going on inside. We enter the lobby and are “flown” to the box office. Once at the box office, the explosions that follow represent the one major bombshell of going to the movies...paying for tickets and if running late, the show times. We enter the theater with anticipation of what we will see and as some images may appear dull and unexciting, something incredible can happen that blows us away such as when Optimus Prime explosively transforms which is representative of that feeling. As the screen begins to engulf the audience, I then take you on a journey through some of the sensations a movie going experience can bring: fear/suspense, emotional connections, and breathtaking journeys into mystical lands, travels under the sea or through the past in the desert! Followed by the glorious sense of wonder we get from seeing beautiful visuals that can simply take our breath away that can range from seeing a rising Opera-House Chandelier, a beautiful animated lantern backdrop, an extraordinary luminous alien planet to a neon-lit computer world. But my finale rushes us through the most wonderful sensation one can get from going to the theater…sharing an exciting/entertaining moment. The cheering audience behind the transforming images shows how powerful and fascinating the moving pictures we see on a movie screen can truly TAKE US AWAY from our day to day grind and shares with us something special! In a sense, the cinema or in this case, Megaplex Theaters, are more than just a place to watch loud moving images, it’s a place that can teleport us to anywhere we want to go beyond imagination!
