Power of the tire is a satirical piece depicting the current political and economical situation in Lebanon. It is meant to be satirical and does not reflect a real situation, but a personal interpretation. Join the tire revolution on our facebook page and spread the word www.facebook.com/powerofthetire or www.powerofthetire.com Regarding this piece, it all started after watching Buck's Take part / waiting for superman trailer, which seemed to have the exact tone for what we wanted. Some of the copy was so good and served our message that we had to use it. Regarding the visuals, buck's piece (Jr Canest's style) is a huge inspiration for experimenting and learning motion graphics. So the intro which is almost identical started as an exercise/study in smooth keyframing, and as the piece took shape, we decided to keep it and give a credit to Jr Canest's inspiring work. You can also find below a list for our inspiration for this piece. Hope you enjoy it. In September 2014, we traveled to Lebanon to capture what life is like for Syrian refugees living in the Bekaa Valley. We were hosted by the humanitarian organisation MEDAIR who has been helping newly arriving refugees primarily with establishing safe shelters since 2012. Check out to see what they are doing at: www.medair.org This film is a collections of sights and sounds from our experience in the informal settlements of the Bekaa Valley where more than 130.000 Syrian refugees are seeking safety. The government has been hesitant to allow formal refugee camps, so these families are living in makeshift shelters on rented farmland from Lebanese farmers with little to no amenities such as water and sanitation. The Bekaa Valley is situated just an hour drive West to the capitol, Beirut, and just a few kilometers away from Damascus, the Syrian capitol. We also shot some surrounding landscapes and life in Beirut to to show the visual and cultural context of the situation in Lebanon. Directed & Edited by: Vincent Urban Camera: Vincent Urban & Stefan Templer Shot with Canon 5D Mark III Music: Ben Lukas Boysen - "Gravity" www.adnoiseam.net If you're interested here's some description of the work featured in the film: 0:55 - Medair is working in informal tented settlements in the Bekaa Valley, plots of private farmland that refugees rent from Lebanese landowners. Medair distributes durable shelter materials to help refugee families reinforce flimsy tents and protect these tents from harsh weather conditions. 1:27 -Doctors, nurses, and technicians are paid and trained by Medair to reinforce these clinics so both vulnerable Lebanese and Syrian Refugees can access affordable health care. Community members are also trained on important nutrition and breastfeeding practices and screened for malnutrition. 1:43 - Medair conducts site improvements to mitigate flooding and improve sanitation, drainage, and hygiene in informal settlements. Small engineering works- digging ditches, laying gravel and pipes and building “soakaways” to manage kitchen and waste water, are tailored as necessary for each site.

This has been something I have wanted to do since the first day of film school. I am lucky and proud to call myself both an Australian and Lebanese but having spent 9 years in Lebanon, from age 8 until age 17, means that Lebanon has a very special place in my heart. I feel like no matter how hard I try I couldn't possibly capture this amazing country's true beauty and essence but I gave it a shot. I only had a three days to film as much of Lebanon as possible. I tried to show a few different sides of Lebanon. Most people I know imagine Lebanon to be a backward conservative society torn by never ending conflict. That can't be further from the truth. The truth is that Lebanon is called 'The Paris of the Middle East' for a reason. Please enjoy this film and share! Filmed and Edited by Wissam Abdallah Shot on RED Epic-X

15' minutes Directed by Ely Dagher The short film premieres between 13-24 May in Cannes. Waves ’98 is as much a narrative film as it is a personal visual essay dedicated to Dagher’s hometown, Beirut. The film is an artistic exploration of the director’s current relation with his Lebanon, his home country, projected through the story of a teenager and set in 1998. Since moving abroad to study and work, Ely Dagher has been spending more and more time outside of Lebanon, and his attachment to Beirut Started to become more and more complicated. The overall Narrative of the film is heavily based on Ely’s efforts to understand his changing relationship with the city and it’s life, juxtaposed with the narrative of a teenager’s exciting discovery of this segregated city.
