For the camera nerds: Just received the Sony FS7 on Friday and the parade and good weather gave us the opportunity to push the codec and SLog3. Despite having some Zeiss primes on hand to shoot more wideopen Time and the need to be handheld we opted to use the Canon L 24-105 paired with a MetaBones Speedbooster so we could shoot at 2.8 and have some variety to shots. The camera and codec held up really well but obviously when it got very dark there is some noise. I graded everything with just a simple 3D LUT in Resolve but the bright blues and magentas created some bad aberrations. I switched out a few of the shots with the native footage to remove this but you can see them in some of the clips included. Overall really love the detail and look of the camera and looking forward to shooting with it in the daytime this week. Download for the full 4K

On this month's episode of the Creative Community, we will look at two exhibits, Left Coast and Living in the Timeless Julie Joyce, Curator of Contemporary Art, SBMA Since opening its doors in 1941, the Santa Barbara Museum of Art has consistently been dedicated to collecting, an activity that has contributed to the growth of the permanent collection in significant ways. Art produced on the West Coast is a major part of this effort. Left Coast presents an overview of the Museum's collecting habits in contemporary art and photography over the course of the past five years. Comprised of over thirty works, the exhibition highlights artists in various stages of their career, ranging from emerging to the established, and regionally to internationally recognized - all of whom have lived, worked, or exhibited in Southern California. Works in the exhibition evoke a sense of individuality, demonstrating why some refer to this side of the country as not simply the West Coast, but the "left" coast. Sommer Roman Sheffield, Artist, Left Coast, SBMA Patty Lee, Curatorial Assistant, Contemporary Art, SBMA Beatrice Wood, Living in the Timeless, SBMA In 1928, Beatrice Wood moved to Los Angeles, and soon expended her practice to include figurative ceramic sculptures, tiles, and illustracted books as she trained on the potter's wheel. The idiosyncratic subjects of her drawings extended into these new media. Her ceramic figures, described by the artist as "sophisticated primitives," often represent complex, adult themes in a deliberately naive manner - mirroring the coquettish personality that Wood crafted and sustained throughout her life. Even as she was making a name for herself in the art world as a potter, she never stopped drawing. Like the journals she wrote in daily since 1915, these drawings served as a visual diary for the artist, blurring the line between documented reality and unbound fantasy. http://www.sbmuseart.org/
